    Default Pomegranate Processing.

    4 December 2011Pomegranate Processing 4 December 2011 Pomegranate Processing.

Three large pomegranates were purchased and the liquid removed by putting the seeds through a Champion juicer. (Pomegranates are not grown in Canada to the best of my knowledge.) The seeds are separated from the substrate as much as is convenient. The liquid is quite thick and is eaten with a spoon. It makes a fine desert. Water could be added to thin to make a drinkable juice.

So, I'm curious, do you eat any solid food, or just juice?

I think you cut the fruit open and each seed is wrapped/covered with a type of flesh/membrane. You place each seed into your mouth, suck/eat the fleshy portion and spit out the seeds. Kinda reminds me of a lychee but on a much smaller scale.

Tasty but tedious to eat and will stain if dripped - exercise caution when eating this. Buying the juice is much easier IMO.

Hey! I eat all and sundry. There is probably no food that I wont eat. The juices play a large part in my current diet though. At the present time all I have access to is store bought stuff, other than what I preserved during the glut of Summer.

Here is my main diet. Potatoes, black walnuts, variety of my canned juices, garlic, onions, rolled oats, soy beans, mixed beans, skim milk, a bit of Danish blue cheese, soy milk. Condiments butter.

What I don't have is bread, sugar, coffee, tea, chocolate, salt, sugar, booze, eggs, pastries, cheese, almost no meat.

Periodically I eat out socially and partake of the typical N.A. food.

Most of my ingested items are grown or purchased fresh and processed by myself. I eat fresh food when available, but tend to avoid commercial fresh food if I have the equivalent preserved.

Apparently the seeds are loaded with micro nutrients, and should be eaten for maximum nourishment, certainly if broken open with the teeth or other means.

The seed can be eaten and are very tasty, but are hard to eat like a regular fruit because of the pulp around the pomegranate. I have eaten them as a kid. They are also called chinese apples. You can also havest the fruit by putting it in some water then pulling it apart after cutting the outside rine off. the fruit will float! and it won't be so messy but you might get stained hands if you don't wear gloves! FYI (:

10 December 2011 Pomegranate Juice. 10 December 2011 Pomegranate Juice.

Five large pomegranates were processed into juice. The cost is three for $5.00. All the pomegranates in the stores are very large and perfect condition from the USA.

If the seeds are not removed completely from the substrate the juice has a bitter taste. The substrate is bitter in taste. Removing the seeds takes a bit of effort and is done by cutting and pulling apart, and removing the seeds with the fingers. This is best done in a deep pot to prevent splashing of the juice.

Seeds are put through the Champion juicer to separate the juice out. The juice makes a very pleasant drink. It is stored in the refrigerator and will be used within the next few days. There is very little residue and is basically seed casings and are very hard, clearly not digestible. There is a about 300 ml of juice from each pomegranate.

I bought a pomegranate last week for my preschoolers to try - then I added seeds to a chopped apple and let it sit for a while - what a great combination!!
