31 March 2008 Lexan Greenhouse 31 March 2008 Lexan Greenhouse My first greenhouse built 11 November 2000. It was 10 by 12 feet and seven feet tall, with a dirt floor on railway tie base. There were two doors one at each end for ventilation.

I tried various heating systems, electricity, propane and finally I installed a small wood stove in the centre of the structure. The wood stove was ideal. Electricity and propane were prohibitively expensive. I did not have access to natural gas, which I use now in my present location via a 10,000 BTU vent less heater. Natural gas was found to be very low cost compared to the electricity and propane.

Then in 2002 I sold the property and moved. A very sad day. The structure is still standing, but moved next door. The covering was UV protected material called Lexan in 2 by 8 foot sheets. The replacement material now mostly used is Suntuf, which is very similar.
