Red Romaine Lettuce
11 May 2012 Red Romaine Lettuce. 11 May 2012 Red Romaine Lettuce
Eight Red Romaine Lettuce seedlings were planted in the outdoor garden. The seedlings were purchased in flats and placed in individual pots and kept in the greenhouse for a few days to establish strong roots. The local supplier produces good plants and in many cases I find it more expedient to purchase rather than grow my own from seed. The row area was rototilled with the small Honda FG110G to loosen the soil, smoothed, then the seedlings planted. The area will be mulched with wood chips later to retain moisture.Durgan

Two flats of four plants each are how the seedlings are sold.and the area is about eight feet long, this allows room for most plants. Eight plants give a lot of produce. From previous years I now know about how much to plant.
Anybody can grow a few plants, but to grow to perfection and utilize all the bounty takes no little effort. I plan of preserving almost everything grown in one form or another. The excess I give to neighbours.Durgan
