You can train chickadees to eat out of your hand & they are quite friendly
. It really doesn't take much just some patience. Put a little black oil sunflower seed on a railing or other surface near the feeder & get them used to that. Then be there not moving for a little while each day for few days. Next put the seeds in the palm of your hand and see if they come. With a lot of patience they will eat out of your hand & you will feel so excited by getting so close to such an awesome creature. It'll take your breath away.
PS. the chickadee will be back & yes he'll bring his friends.

we also have lots of birdies at our feeders. we have a bird feeder/squirrel feeder in the front yard (hubby made) and a bird feeder, suet feeder in the back yard. also hubby throws some seed on the ground because some birds are strictly ground feeders. we usually get chickadees, cardinals, blue jays, mourning doves, snow birds, wood peckers, starlings, among others. we also enjoy watching the squirrels. they are very amusing to watch!! they will do many acrobats trying to get the seed out of the feeder!!
they love corn (hubby puts out whole ears of dried corn)...so if you want to show tyler a treat, they are too funny!! good luck, they will come....and they WILL bring their friends!! (we start feeding in fall too....then all winter)

There are 2 Blue Jays here!!

They like the bread crumbs I put on the ground. They fill their beaks as full as they can then have to drop it all to eat it. lolSherry

and remember to put some on the ground.....as long as there are no cats around. some birds only eat off the ground....like mourning doves. i love those!!!! we do have 2 outdoor cats, but they don't seem to bother the birds much. only one of the cats even tries to catch them. he is a baby still and hasn't learned yet!
the other cat is way too old to care.

I love it, CJ. I just went for a walk to the post office and around town and when I got back just now the little chickadee is here.
