Down on the Homestead - Oct 12 - 18th
Good morning. Were almost half way through October. Just seems like we just started this month. Its a bit cooler today and got below 0 last night, so I think the cooler tempereatures are on their way.
Today will pretty much be a day of rest. I plan on painting Christmas ornaments and just laying around, not doing much. Think I'll do some reading as well.
Thats the buzz here.

Wow! I love it when i get up in the morning and get right to work. So far today i have hung 3 loads of laundry and done 5 loads. Some need to be dried in the dryer so as much as i hate to do that... LOL
The apple butter that I cooked last week needed to be put up in jars so I reheated that and canned it.
With all our dogs we need to sweep everyday, so now that is also finished.
Behind our old log cabin, there are about 4 black walnut trees, so Alex and I went and picked those up and have started smashing off the hulls. What a dirty job that is I have green hands now. Oh well, live and learn. Next year we will know to wear gloves, I chuckle when i think of all the things I have learned through trial and error living in a rural area.
This afternoon I'm planning on starting on our Halloween costumes. The last thing I want to get done is to get the dogs walked, what a lovely day it is here about 68 and sunny!
Hope all of you have a wonderful day on your homestead!

Not much here. Just trying to catch up on some sleep after getting in at 1:00 a.m. with DD and the marching band. We did go to church today, though
.
I went to the grocery store and saved $45.34 in coupons! I was doin' a happy dance! I should have enough diapers now for the next month. They were out of the sale diapers in Courtney's size. I'll go back later in the week for 4 more with my coupons and more sale ground beef.
Getting ready to go start dinner. Have a great day!

Well what was suppose to be a day of rest turned into becoming busy. I sorted all my photos and put them in the proper photo albums. Thats all done.
Then I decided to wash clothes (3 loads) and got those hung and dried. Now I have another load I'll have to hang in the house as its spitting rain. I also have to fold the 3 dried loads.
But I did get a couple things accomplished and that feels great.

I can't believe the month is half way over either. Time is really flying. There are only 74 days until Christmas! Can you believe it?
Today me and DH spent most of the day in town grocery shopping. We were able to get some great deals as posted in another thread.
I also picked up some canning jars that were very reasonable. I am going to make them into gifts in a jar presents and give them out for presents this year. I refuse to go broke over gift giving this year.
DH cleaned out his truck today. I need to do the same to my car, but with the rain we have been having it would be no use. We have white dirt and the kids seem to get it all in the car when it is raining and it makes a mess. When it dries it is easy to get off though.
I washed a load of laundry and hung them on the drying rack to dry. I love this! I can't wait to see the difference in the light bill.
Well, that's the buzz here on the homestead.~*Michelle*~

Good morning everyone, on this dull, cloudy Thanksgiving morning here in Canada. To my Canadian friends, Happy Thanksgiving.
I need to get busy and do some baking. One of dh's friends is coming over for supper tonight. I'll put the turkey in the oven around 1:30 so before that I want to have my baking done.
I also need to get more ornaments painted. Didn't get many done over the weekend, but dh got quite a few more cut. Also need to get some pkgs. in the mail by Wed. so I need to get busy.
There are still clothes to fold from yesterday, they won't take long to get done though.
Then I need to scrub the kitchen floor.
Thats the buzz down here.

It's a beautiful Thanksgiving Day here today! Sunny and suppose to get warmer. We were at my parents yesterday and DH's Mom's and had wonderful visits and a great turkey meal with all the fixings! We didn't get home until midnight so we all slept in a bit this morning.
Mom sent LOTS of leftovers so we will be having "our" Thanksgiving meal here today. All I have to make is the potatoes, turnip and a pumpkin pie.
I want to put in a couple loads of laundry and other than that I want to enjoy this beautiful fall day with DH and the kids. Since we have many maple trees the first thing to do is raking up the leaves and jumping in them!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canandian friends! I wish I was there to help you celebrate. I love turkey with all the fixings! Yummy!
Today was a work day for me, but only had to work 3 hours. The kids had the day off.
I have a load of clothes to fold up and put away. I have another load drying on the drying rack.
DH will cook steaks on the grill tonight, so we don't have to heat the house. I am so glad the weather is cooler, so we can leave the windows open and the a/c off.~*Michelle*~

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends!
I'll take a little white meat and lots of potatoes! LOL
Work day here but I got so much done yesterday that I'm glad, because today is our first official Girl Scouts meeting.
I am still at school because Michael has a meeting and it is much faster to use the computers at school than my arcaic(sp?) one at home.
When we get home I have to start right on dinner. Also a bit of sweeping is in order I'm sure. Boy, those dogs sure do shed! And we are going into the winter months, you'd think they want to keep their hair! Not much more to report here.
Have a great day everyone!

Good morning everyone, I'm so tired this morning, wonder what I'll get done today.
I do have planned:
~have to get some ornaments painted for sure. I didn't do any yesterday.
~need to make a couple of important phone calls and get those out of the way.
~have a few clothes to fold, not many though. I don't even need to wash clothes today, my laundry is all caught up.
~have to cut up the turkey and freeze some of it.
Thats about all here today.

Well today will be kind of busy. I have planned
3 loads of laundry
make bread (already on first rising!)
Make pineapple upside down cake
deep clean kitchen
If I have energy after this list I want to reorganize my sewing area and deep clean the livingroom.
I called about a job yesterday and I would really enjoy it!
Thats the buzz from down here!

Well its already evening here and I haven't posted to this thread. I totally forgot about it this morning.
Today I painted a number of Christmas ornaments and sanded them. They are now ready to be sprayed with varathane which I'll do when I get off of here.
I made a couple of important phone calls and got those out of the way.
I made homemade turkey soup for supper and made a large pot. Its all gone, I couldn't believe what everyone ate. The kids had been outside playing in the leaves though and they were cold when they came in, so I guess they needed the soup to warm up.
I washed a load of clothes and was able to dry them outside. It was cold hanging them out, but we had a nice breeze which dried them quickly. Not many days left of drying outside.
Thats the buzz on the homestead.

It was a cold morning to wake up too today. I didn't want to get up out of the bed. It was 42 degrees and I had left the windows open all night so to me it was cold. I had to find those warm, fuzzy houseshoes DH bought me last year to slip on my cold feet.
It was a work day of course, so not much housework done.
I have done a load of laundry and hung it on the drying rack. I unloaded the dishwasher and put away the clean dishes.
DH went and picked up pizzas that we had to sell for a 4-H fundraiser. Dakota went with him to deliver them to the customers. I made three that I bought for us for supper. They were yummy and easy to make.
The kids have a 4-H meeting tonight, so we need to start getting ready to go.
That's the buzz here on the homestead.~*Michelle*~

Today I was homebound so I did laundry alllllll daaayyyyyy! YUCK! Had to use the dryer, it was too cold and damp outside.
I got Courtney's clothes together for our trip. DH has to get the ladder out for me so I can get our suitcases out of the attic.
I'm getting ready to go over to Ashlee's band practice to watch until she is done.
Tomorrow is another day!
