Thumbs up Down on the Homestead, Oct. 26 - Nov. 1st

Good morning everyone.    As I look out my window, I can see snow on the ground, not a leaf on any trees and a dull, cloudy sky.    It didn't get as cold as it was suppose to here last night, so the furnace wasn't on all that often.  I guess I'm not use to it being on yet, because when it does come on I hear it.

Hope everyone turned your clocks back last night!

Today we need to go into the city.    I need to get some wool and a couple crochet hooks and dh needs to get a bit of wood to make more crafts.     I'm not painting today, taking the day off from that, but starting tomorrow again, I need to paint more ornaments.

Once were home, then I'll wash another load of clothes.   The ones I washed last night should be dry by then.   I'll also need to get the ones folded that I washed last night.

I need to clean out both kitty litters.

Thats about all I'm doing on the homestead today.   Have a great Sunday everyone.

Hi everyone! Got our extra hour sleep last night

We all went to church this morning and I taught Sunday School. We carved out mini pumpkins and put a tea light in the top for a cute candle.

When we got home we had lunch and the guys went outside to work in the barn for a few hours. I got supper started and a cheesecake made for dessert. I've now taken a break for a short computer time and then going to finish up some laundry.

Hope all is well down on your homesteads!!!

What a wonderful day here. The weather is 58 degrees today. The wind is blowing and it feels nice. It is one of those days when you want to cuddle with DH under a blanket.

    DH cooked chili. Yummy!

I enjoyed that extra hour of sleep this morning. I needed it. My body has been tired.

I need to get started on my Christmas crafts this week so I don't have to wait until the last minute. I also need to pull out all the gifts in my gift closet and see exactly what I have and for whom.

Hope you all have a great day on your homestead.

What a cool Sunday this is! Well for those who heard me say in the chat room last night, my MIL was coming today she didand she has left. I can actually say this is the first time in a long time that the visit went well.
I went to a craft show this a.m. to see what they had there and I'm pleased to say there were no rugs there. I'm taking this as a good sighn that that is not a well known craft here and not many do it. It is a go ahead and I will start working on those this summer. On the way home from the craft show I picked up some steaks for the mil visit. Oh,! I spent almost $40 on them! That is nearly 1/4 of my monthly budget! However as I said the visit went well so... After i got dinner started I took the puppies for a walk and got my 3 miles in. That is one deffinate plus ogmy new girls. They force me to walk. One good thing about having company come over is the house is all clean when they leave so you can be a slug if you want to. Which is what I intend to do for the rest of the day. I have made one coaster, and i need to make 4 a day until Dec. so I do need to do 3 more. Have a good day ladies. Keep warm!

Good morning everyone, its cool and cloudy here but all our snow has melted.   Well what little bit we had anyways.

I stayed up last night learning a bunch of crochet stitches and so later today, I'm starting an afghan for my mom.    I'm hoping to get it done on time for her birthday, but if I can get it done before Christmas I'll give it to her then.

I'm also working on the tutorial quilt, along with the charity quilt as I have time today.

I need to get another load of laundry done and then I'm all caught up.    Two loads need to be folded though, so thats on my list to do as well.

I'm leaving on the 20th, so I need to get a bunch of baking done up for dh and the kids.   Already the kids are worried about dad cooking rice (thats a whole other story) and wonder what they'll eat.    Poor babies, they need to know that mom has left something in the freezer, rather than eating only dad's cooking.

When dh gets home, we'll be starting to cut up the deer and then I need to get that wrapped and put in the freezer.     Were doing all the cutting and wrapping ourselves, saving major $$.      I was hoping we would have gotten the hide, because I would have had it tanned and learnt how to make moccasins, but the guy had gotten rid of the hide already when he called us.

So its going to be a busy day here on the homestead.    Have a great one everyone.

Good afternoon! It feels like it been ages since I posted here. Dh has been on the computer most day sending out resumes. He's been off work now for 2-1/2 months. We're praying he finds work soon.

Yesterday ds brought home a free 30lb pumpkin so dh and I cooked it up and froze 22 cups of pumpkin puree.

This morning I made pumpkin muffins for breakfast. Yummy! Now I'm working on laundry and house work. I need to get bread dough rising so we have fresh buns to go with our Cheeseburger soup for supper. I need to spend some time working on my Christmas cross-stitch ornaments. I finished 6 done so far with 4 more to go. Actually the cross-stitching on the 6 are done but I still have to cut out fabric and sew the ornaments together but that should go quickly.

Hope you all have a great day on your homesteads.

A new work week for me. I cant believe that the second six-weeks ends this Friday. Report cards for the 6 weeks go home next Thursday. The school year seems to be flying by. That is 2 six weeks down and 4 more to go.

DH went to a fire chief's meeting tonight.

Richard is suffering from allergies and so am I. I hate when the seasons start to change because that is when they act up.

I need to start shelling pecans that Dakota and I went and picked for free. I hate shelling them, but I love pecan pies.

I hope everyone is having a great day on their homestead.

Well, Tuesday is here and I am home sick from work. I think it is just a head cold. Richard is home sick too.

I can't believe that when the week is over that a new month will be here. This year has really flown by.

I am doing laundry today and not much else. I may climb back in bed and try to get some rest and beat this sickness. I am glad I work for an understanding school. They never complain about us taking off. Thank goodness. That is one reason I stay there, if I have to leave, I can ... no questions asked.

I hope you all have a great day on your homesteads.

Michelle, hope your feeling better real soon.

Today is nice and sunny here and we missed the snow that fell on 3/4 of the province and especially in Winnipeg.     We did get some much needed rain though so that was good.

Last night we got part of the deer cut up, wrapped and in the freezer.    Today, I'll throw a soup bone in the oven for a bit, then make soup for supper.

I need to fold a load of laundry and get that all put away.   When thats done, I also need to get 2 more pkgs. in the mail and then finished a couple of craft items.    Then I'm taking the day just to rest.     I haven't been feeling well either for the past 2 days and was in bed at 8:30 last night.     Hopefully today will be better.

Thank you CJ and I hope you feel better soon too! The cooler weather has made us all sick.

Try to get some rest and take care of yourself.

Good morning everyone.    Its dull here and quite cool this morning, but still no lasting snow.

Yesterday I mulched my perennials and roses and covered them with burlap.    That was a huge job, but I'm glad its finally done.

Dh finished cutting up the deer last night and I got it all wrapped and put in the freezer.   Our freezer is filling up quite nicely with free meat.     I'm hoping I don't have to buy another freezer when we get the free pig, but where dh works, he is allowed 2 free pigs a year.      I'm going to see how much I can put in my fridge freezer.   If we do get one though, I've decided to get a large one that uses less electricity and get rid of the smaller one we have that is over 20 years old and a guzzler of electricity.

I crocheted long into the night last night and have almost 5 rows done on my afghan.    It was so quiet here when everyone was asleep, so I just sat at the kitchen table, crocheting away.     I even have a pattern.      And believe it or not, its the one in the book.

Today I need to wash clothes, get the kids started with their school work, fold a load of clothes, clean out the kitty litter boxes, and do some general cleaning around the house.

Hope everyone is having a good day on their homesteads.

Good morning. We woke up to a cool morning, but it is suppose to warm up by the afternoon.

I stayed home again from work. I don't want to give anyone my cold.

Today I need to finish up laundry, do dishes and clean floors and if I feel up to it.

I also need to run into town and pick up DS#1's medicine. He is out and needs it by tomorrow.

I will stop by and check the mail when I go into to town.

I think that is all I am going to accomplish today and rest the rest of the day.

Hope you have a great day on your homestead.

Good morning everyone, its beginning to look a lot like Christmas here.    Everything is covered in snow and its still snowing.  I love the first snowfall.    It makes everything so clean and fresh.    It is cool though, so I had to turn the heat up.

Today, I don't have much planned.    Going to do some crocheting later and work on the charity quilt.     I've almost got the borders around the blocks, then I'll start with the sashing.     I love though being able to crochet now too, because when I can't be quilting, I can be crocheting.

I also need to get some painting done on some Christmas ornaments for our last sale.    I painted so much before, I just don't feel much up to painting this week.    I may leave it until Monday and then get cracking on it.

Think I'll make some muffins today as well and get more froze up, along with some cookies.

Thats the buzz here on the homestead.

btw - slowtypinwoman and Michelle, hope your both feeling better soon.

slowtypinwoman - I hope you have a better day today!
Michelle - Hope you get over your cold soon.

We had a storm come through on Tuesday that brought some high winds. A couple tree across the street we're blown down. The power went flickered off and on for us but all around us people and business' were without power most of the day. Some homes are still without power. Yesterday I spent time outside cleaning up the mess from the storm.

Today I am taking dd shopping for a couple hours. Not my favorite pastime but she loves shopping and it will be nice to have some girl time together. Other then that I'm hoping to bake some cranberry muffins and some oatmeal and raisin cookies. I should do some housework too.

CJ - I'm reading a good book I think you might like. It's call "Aunt Mary in the Granary and Other Prairie Stories". True stories about a family growing up in the '30s in the Saskatchewan area.

That's it for this homestead. Have a great day!
