Exclamation Down on the homestead - Nov. 9 - 15th

Good morning everyone on this chilly, but sunny morning. Everyone is still in bed, except dh. He is already in his workshop.

We were able to watch the eclipse last night, pretty spectacular. It was neat to just walk outside our door and watch it. In the city, we would never have been able to do that.

Today is going to be a day of rest. I only have to cook some potatoes and boil some eggs for potato salad. I cooked extra meat last night so I wouldn't have to do it today.

So I'll be spending the day crocheting, quilting and reading. Just a fun way to spend it.

Have a great day on your homestead everyone!!

Today is COLD...we got about 3 cm of snow yesterday. I love the first snowfall...Delaney got on her snowsuit, over top of her pyjamas and out she went, lots of fun!! Mind you most of it is gone now.

DH didn't get home until late yesterday afternoon, had to leave early this morning to pick up a load, will be back this afternoon and then leave for Indiana after supper. Not much time with him this weekend but with starting with a new job, he'll do what he has to do, he seems much, much happier!

I have scalloped potatoes and ham in crockpot for lunch and have a chicken ready to put in oven mid afternoon. I have cut up the pototoes and veggies and have them sitting in cold water on stove for supper as well. I want to make a couple of apple pies and some cookies. (So much for a non-busy day...but it's what I enjoy and it is relaxing to me) I'm in my own home, don't have to go out and will have a great supper for everyone!!

DH's laundry is being washed now and will get it ready and in his bag for him leaving tonight. Also will pack a bunch of lunches and a few suppers for him.

I hope this afternoon to have some time to rearrange one bookshelf upstairs and to tidy up my fabric shelf.

    Have a wonderful day everyone!!

Today I want to work on my cook book. Other than that I just plan to get ready for tomorrow, my first day with EVERYBODY gone all day! LOL Silly isn't it? I think I will get much more done with no one here with me!
I am still fighting this cold but the coughing fits are slowing and not quite as painful as they were.
Its a grey day, but not as cold as yesterday. To me its just chilly but to dh and sons its cold! LOL then again they think an inch is real snow too!
We didn't get to see the eclipse last night, too much cloud cover. We were all disappointed, we love God's gifts of entertainment!
Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning everyone. Its much warmer today and suppose to get to 0 so that will be very welcome. The sun is shining which always makes for a better day.

Today I have lots to do on the homestead. I need to bake bread and get some baking done. I just can't seem to keep it long enough in the freezer and I want some ahead for when I leave on the 19th.

I plan on rendering the fat from the pig today so that I can have that all ready for when I get back from my trip to begin the adventures of making old fashioned soap.

I'd like to get the binding done on the charity quilt tonight, if not tonight, for sure tomorrow night.

I have a couple of craft items to put varathane on, along with getting some snowmen painted as well.

Along with all of that, its washing day here and I have a couple of loads to do. I think I might just turn the computer off and not turn it back on until after supper, will see.

The kids are still sleeping so thats given me a bit of time to play on the computer before they get up.

    Have a great one!!

You are so busy today CJ!

DS#1 missed the bus this morning so I had to run him into school!! Neighbours dog which is 1/4 mile down the road barked for 2 hours non stop, no kidding!! Loud!! Needless to say our dog was pacing the floors and so was I! DD I think has the flu, had to change her bedding, everything in the middle of the night and got her settled. Poor little girl!

SO, that's how my day started!!

DD is home from school, she is on the couch watching Little House on the Prairie reruns that I taped and sipping water. Dylan is doing his school work and I have to get to cleaning up the kitchen! Didn't get done last night, oh I hate when I leave it until the next day.

Will also be doing laundry, making cookies and some muffins and getting a program ready for a ladies church meeting on November.

    Have a great day ladies!

Good morning everyone. It looks like a promising day here, with warmer temps and the sun shining. Yesterday it got up to +2C and the kids played outside all afternoon, building castles, forts and snowballs. There was no school yesterday afternoon or today because of REmembrance day.

Being remembrance day, I especially think of my dad when he served in WW11. He always refused to talk about his time overseas, but I'm so thankful for him and all the men and women who fought and served to keep our countries free.

Today, I need to get bread baked. I didn't get it done yesterday as I baked cookies all day. I'm hoping to keep enough froze up so I don't have to make anymore until I get back from my trip. But at the rate everyone is eating them, well who knows. Even Michael has gotten into the act now, and eats them. He wouldn't even look at them before.

I need to fold clothes and wash a load of darks, then hang them on the clothesrack to dry. I'm trying to make Monday's ONLY washing day, but I haven't quite succeeded yet. I usually end up doing washing a few times a week.

Later, I'll cut the binding for the charity quilt. I didn't work on it yesterday because I decided to find a good book and curl up and read. Want to have it done though before I leave.

Other than that, not much happening here on the old homestead. Oh yeh, I also need to get some ornaments painted today.

    Have a good one!!

Good Tuesday morning. The weather is nice here. It is 63 now and will be in the 80's later. No need for heat or air on.

I am home today with 2 of the boy's, Richard and Dakota. They are sick with headaches, their throat hurts, fever and aches. So I get to play nurse today instead of teacher.

I also get to catch up laundry since I didn't get too this weekend. We went deer hunting this past weekend, but didn't shoot anything. We are suppose to go again this weekend. I hope we get something before deer season ends. We have some time. DH saw a big doe, but didn't shoot it. He is waiting for it to bring out the big buck.

A co-worker, who is a close friend, gave us some deer meat last night that had already been processed, so no work to do. I was very thankful for it.

I had to go to Wal-mart last night and get Chris some basketball shoes. Now that football season is over, basketball season has started and he has decided to play that as well. I wish they could use their regular tennis shoes, but they don't want their street shoes on the gym floor, so their was some money spent yesterday. Always something with the schools!!!

I need to catch up on laundry and do some vacuuming.

I hope you have a great day on your homestead.

Good morning. Its a dull, cloudy morning here and they are saying some snow. I hope so, the kids have so much fun in the snow. We have such creative castles in our yard now, along with a few snowball forts. Its wonderful to see.

Today I definitely have to bake bread!!!! I put it off yesterday and did a few other things. I also need to get some painting done, I keep putting that off as well. I did get the craft items varathaned I needed to get done though, so they are ready.

Clothes need to be folded, another load of laundry washed (more darks) and last night's dishes done.

I just need to get moving.

Good afternoon. I haven't done much this morning. Dakota is still home sick. I need to put some clothes on to wash.

I also need to take a friend to go pick up her vehicle from the auto mechanic.

DH also took the day off. He has went to an EMS call already today.

I need to sit down and think about staying home and redoing our budget again.

Today I was up early baking for a luncheon today at the church. Lovely time. It was a group of church ladies and they invited me to their meeting. Wonderful lunch, pot luck, the best! The message was on the power of prayer....oh how did they know I needed to hear that! Alot of the ladies are older and either they live alone or husbands are away hunting. I was sent home enough food for supper!!

I picked up Delaney from school after the meeting/lunch and then went into p/u Kody from high school and take him to therapy. On the way home the winds got up and the rain was so hard I couldn't see out the window. Everyone pulled over until it passed. Hours later we are still getting very high winds and are expecting hail and possibly snow overnight. Glad DH is home!

Good morning everyone. The sun woke me up earlier than what I wanted to be up, but I'll take the sun anyday. Its been warm enough for the kids to play outside every afternoon, and they sure are sleeping better at night. Our yard is like a fairy castle - it has castles in every spot that was available. In there are more forts and more snowballs!!!

Today I do really need to get some stuff done. After playing on the computer for most of the day yesterday, when dh got home I ended up taking him to emergency and then for x-rays of his head and neck. He is now on medication.

So for today I need to:

    - wash last night's dishes
    - clean the bathroom
    - do laundry
    - fold clothes and then hang up the freshly washed clothes
    - cut material for binding on charity quilt
    - paint some more ornaments
    - somewhere in there I should bake some bread and muffins
    - grind grain

Its going to be a busy day. Hope everyone has a good one on your homestead.

Praying for your DH as well CJ. Hope he is ok.

Today, I finally went back to work and Dakota went back to school. I enjoyed being home with him though and am really trying to figure a way to cut my budget to manage it. I know there must be something else I am overlooking.

Today is a cool, windy day. The weather feels great.

    I need to:
    ~cook supper
    ~wash laundry
~hang out to dry on drying rack
~pay water bill before the 15th.....don't want a late charge.
~pick Chris up from basketball practice

I am sure there is more, but that is enough for now.

Hope you all have a great day on your homestead.

Thanks everyone. Box was up most of the night, so I'm not sure how he is this morning. He refuses to stay home from work, but he should be home around lunch. Hopefully the medication will have started kicking in by then.

Today I have to bake, no ands, ifs or buts about it. I'm almost out of bread and I refuse to go and purchase any.

Need to fold clothes and wash some bedding.

I also have to phone around and see where I can get some more fat to render down for making soap. I know I don't have near enough. I want to make up a couple of batches while I'm doing it rather than just a small batch.

Will be making homemade soup for supper.

    Thats about it for now.
