Back to Basics - how far do you plan on going?
I woke up thinking about this and wondering how far everyone planned on going. Do you plan on going as much as you can to "back to basics" or are you just having fun reading about it, but not making any plans to do it.
I truly want to back as far as I can, in that we want to become as self-sufficient as we possibly can. So far we learnt or done:
- our own renovating (all of it)
- grow our own veggies
- growing our own fruit
- learning to quilt, sew, knit and crochet
- learnt to can and preserve
- learnt how to fish and hunt for our own meat
- dh learnt how to do electrical work
What we need to learn more of or do more of:
- dh is learning to butcher meat and were both learning how to cut and wrap it. We have done 2 deer and 2 pigs so far.
- learn how to make soap. I have all the fat rendered down, so once I get back from my trip, I'll be learning this.
- learn to spin my own wool (there are a number of sheep farmers around here where I should be able to get some wool. I already have the spinning wheel)
- learn to make my own butter
- learn how to use a pressure canner so that I can do meat
What about you?
