    Question cut flower gardens?

It's cold and snowing so what better way to spend the afternoon but than looking over the seed catalogs I have decided that I am going to make an area of the property to grow just cut flowers. I love having fresh flowers in the house, in almost every room but I don't like paying the price year round, but I was wondering if anyone here grows flowers just for that reason, what kind do you grow? I am trying to figure out what will be the best cutting flowers to grow. Thanks.

I have really enjoy roses, irises, tulips, daffodils, peonies and day lillies. That is what I have growing in my garden along with some volunteer shasta daisies that keep coming back year after year and spreading like mad!

I'm in zone 4. I have seen some really nice looking flowers that they say are great for cutting, but sadly they don't do well in zones under 6.

Melissa, what zone are you in?

    Jessie,
I am trying to plant more things for cut flowers this year. I especially love Yarrow because it holds it's color so long. If you get time, come on over to www.homesteadgarden.com and see if you can find any information there that might help.

I'm like you, I enjoy cut flowers in my home. I started about three years ago to put in more flowers for cutting. The first year I bought a huge "mixed" bag and put in rows. It was great going out and picking a variety every other day!

I still buy a mixed bag along with lots of cosmos, zinneas, asters, and much of the above that was mentioned.
