Down on the Homestead Feb 1 - 7th
Good Sunday morning!
We are getting milder temperatures and the snowsquals have stopped for the time being. We are doing lots of shovelling today moving the piles of snow.
I plan on taking this afternoon to back and put lots in the freezer. Cookies, muffins, a loaf or two, and I have some apples here that needs used up so I'm making 2 apple pies. DH like to take homemade goodies in the truck with him too.
Lazy morning here, no church today.....will go and have some quiet time with my devotions, tidy my room check out the kids rooms.
Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning everyone. Its warming up here, only -22C this morning. The sun is shining, the snow is sparkling and there isn't a speck of wind. Woo hoo!!
Today is my day of rest, so I'm going to have fun on the computer, do some reading and do some quilting. Can't beat that for having a nice Sunday.
Have a great day everyone!!

Well I cooked comfort food for dinner last night, smothered pork chops, mashed taters and artichokes. It was good. I rewarded myself aftre a hard day's work in the garage. I am de cluttering it and getting rid of lots of old things that I have no need for anymore. We took a truckload of scrap metal and have a truckload of bagged trash to go today. I did so much to my homestead on Wednesday that I didn't have much to do for the reaminder of the week, but need to do a little catch up now. I am feeling so peaceful here at home finding myself lighting candles very often, it sets the mood of luxury and comfort for me at such a minimal cost.
Going to church to take communion for the first time and then come home and reflect on all I have to be grateful for, especially my own homestead.

~I'm glad you are feeling at peace Robin.
~ Have a safe journey Carolyn, you will be missed here too!
~ Glad all you Canadians have a rest from the snow and cold. I honestly don't know how you all do it. 'Fraid I'd be whining 27/7. LOL
Today I started early with the laundry and cleaning. Alex is cleaning the bathroom as I type. When I get finished I need to cut my hair and Michael's. Right now I'm needing to wash the couch covers. Yikes! They need it.
I'm not sure if we will have school tomorrow. The weather man is calling for more ice and snow. hurrah
Guess we will watch the Super Bowl tonight. I really dis-like sports but love the commercials. Junk food for dinner tonight. MMMMM
I made banana nut muffins today and we will have those to nibble on for a few days.
Oh and thanks for the prayers girls, Mike's foot is much better.
Have a great day on your homestead!

Marcia~glad to hear Mike's foot is doing better
Carolyn~have a safe trip. You will be missed.
I have been doing laundry this morning. I need to still do the floors, bathrooms and breakfast dishes. Just tells you what kind of day I am having....I want to be lazy, but all this is waiting on me. It will be waiting a little while longer.
I did manage to clip all my coupons and file them away for later use. I also listed 4 items for auction. Hopefully they will sell and I can be rid of them.
DH made breakfast this morning and he is also making dinner for us tonight. We will be snackin' on junk food mostly tonight while watching the SuperBowl.
We watched "Open Range" last night with Kevin Costner and I thought it was pretty good. It has some very beautiful country in it.
That's the news from our homestead.~*Michelle*~

Good morning ladies!
Today I'll be grocery shopping (blah). When I finish that, I'm going out to search for material for a bag. Yes! I'm going to to sew!! When I was at our store on Saturday I was talking to an American lady who had the best handbag. She told me she bought it at a farmer's market in San Francisco. It was made from lovely granny's old sofa floral fabric and was lined with a tiny gingham. So, despite doubts about my sewing ability (or maybe because of them) I'm going to attempt the bag. It looks simple - just straight lines, but I thought if I plan it out, cut it properly and then pin it, I should be okay. I'll also have to take it slow because usually I do things too fast, so I'll take my time and see what happens.
Yesterday was my rest day so I spent some of it in the garden planning out my next project in my head. My husband bought me some huge pots and a new bird bath for Christmas and it's been too hot to work out where they'll go. Now I've worked it out in my head I just need him to place them for me and I'll pot up some big weeping shrubs I have.
While we've been having our very hot and stormy weather, on the nightly TV news they've been showing us various places in Canada and the US with huge snowfalls. Last night it was up-state New York and the night before it was Quebec. Both places looked so beautiful but I guess having so much snow would make life tough.
The light has started to change here. It's gone from the harsh mid-summer glare to a gentler golden colour. That means that soon it will start to cool down. YAY! We have three months of hot humid weather and then nine months of perfect weather. The end of summer is my favourite time because it means I have all those wonderful months to look forward to. Soon it will be time to turn off the air-cons and spend a portion of each day gardening.
Life's good.

Hi Ladies!!!! May you all be blessed beyond your wildest imaginations !

Today we slept in and it felt so good! Yesterday was a busy day for us. We went to the dump and dumped a huge trailer full of garbage and junk from cleaning out the garge. We then went and picked up a beautiful cabinet hubby got for free from a remodel he is doing. Onto town from there to get our free dozen donuts, coffee and pastries that hubby and the kids won. Did some grocery shopping (I'm including those in Feb total since we are not using them until today) and was able to get 7 bags of candy and 2 toothpastes free!!!!
Stopped by my MIL and FIL's to visit and get some of our movies that SIL had borrowed. Ended up borrowing SeaBiscuit from them. On the way home we decided spur of the moment to just got he the Saturday night service at church instead of service today. We quickly unlaoded the van and put everything away and were back out the door headed for Spokane within 15 minutes!
The service was wonderful and so was praise and worship! We stopped for pizza on the way home and I found a teenaged girl in pain in the bathroom. She was an employee there and her back was hurting her terribly. I got some help from the staff there to get her out and in a chair and then we iced her back and called her parents to come and get her. Poor thing was just crying and shaking. Jaysn and I prayed for her and I stayed with her until her parents got there. The manager gave us $10 gift certificate for helping and for me not being able to eat my dinner. My main concern was for that poor girl. I'm going to call up there later this week and see how she is doing. We hit heavy snow on the way home and got home close to midnight.
Today we are just staying home and enjoying a lazy day. Chris is attempting to get caught up on laundry and the other 2 kids are across the street at a friends for the moment. I have a cat curled up in my lap (poor thing feels very neglected after beingleft yesterday
). Molly, the cat, is the one in my avatar and she is a Momma's girl! Jeff and the kids are going to watch the SuperBowl and call me when there are fun commercials. I'm just waiting for Survivor to come on after it!!!! Forget the Superbowl party, we are doing a Survivor party!!!!

Good evening!
The girls and I went to church this morning. The parking lot was an ice skating rink! Very dangerous!
After church we had some lunch, and then I sent Ashlee off to study for her midterms. She has her last one tomorrow-Algebra-her worst subject. She has a 70 average right now *sigh*. Hopefully she can bring that up.
Raechel had a basketball game in another town this afternoon. Tough team. The girls really got beat up. The other team was outplaying them every step of the way. The girls were really getting frustrated. They lost...ultimately. I know this one hurts, it's their first loss in 6 games.
DH went to a friends for the superbowl, so I ordered Chinese for the girls and I, listed some auctions for DH and now we're watching Rose Red again.
Oh, and Ashlee's friend that broke his ankle while he was here last week, had to have surgery to put a pin in his ankle. I called his mom yesterday to see how he was doing. I talked to him a little bit too. He's bored I guess and sore. He has a cast up to his thigh. Ashlee and I made up a little survival kit with books, candy, snacks, and some joke things to send to him. Courtney even colored him a picture, lol. Please keep Duncan in your prayers for speedy healing.
Thanks!
That's about it. Getting ready for bed now. Big "town" meeting at work tomorrow-I smell layoffs....
One person is already gone. I decided if I get laid off again, I'm going to go to school for CT scan tech, because unemployment will pay for me to go to school.
Have a good week ladies!

Good morning everyone. Its warming up here a bit, which is sure nice to see. The kids are so wanting to go outside and play in the added snow we have. Still not quite warm enough yet, but hopefully this week, the weather will be nice enough for that.
Today I plan on baking up a bunch of chocolate chip cookies and some applesauce muffins. Want to freeze some for later.
I also plan on doing some sewing, more work on the tutorials, some quilting and at least 2 rows on my afghan. I'd like to get that done and start on another one.
Its also laundry day here today, so once the kids are awake, I'll get that started.
Hope you all have a good day down on your homestead.

Hi Everyone!!!!

Today we have no outside commitments and I am thrilled about that!
The boys are doing their schoolwork and have their Creation reports rough drafts due to me today. Jaysn is also prepping for his Driver's Ed class. It's cold outside with a nasty windchill, so we are all trying to stay warm in the house. Jaysn was brave and walked down town to mail the bills and return videos to the library. There is a thick layer of ice on the van and I really didn't want to spend lots of time scraping it off.
Still trying to decide what to make for dinner. Since this is one of the few nights this week that we will not be out, I want to have a nice sit down meal. The boys are performing in a talent show this weekend and we have lots of band practices along with guitar lessons this week.
I'm so longing for Spring and I keep looking out into my snow covered garden imagining all the wonderful crops I will have there. Sigh.....
I can almost taste the fresh strawberries, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, brocolli. etc. Anybody else itching for Spring????

Good day to all. It is a little chilly here due to the wind blowing, but nothing too bad.
I decided to take Dakota with me to work this morning on my school campus. I knew the school nurse would be there this morning. We have 1 nurse for 4 campuses. She travels from school to school each day. The schools are like a few blocks from each other....nothing like traveling way across town. Anyway, I had her check his throat because he couldn't swallow and has just felt blah. She said it looked like strep, so I called the dr. and got him in. YEP, it was strep. So he is on antibiotics and is on the couch sleeping at the moment.
Tonight I have to open the concession stand for the jr. high basketball game. This is the last home game, and the last time I have to open it.
No laundry to do today as I caught it up yesterday.
I need to finish the floors though.
We are having chicken, rice, broccoli and cheese casserole for supper tonight.~*Michelle*~

Hi all,
I hope that Dakota feels better soon
As I sit here in school waiting for Michael to get finished up it is snowing like mad outside.
We had a little trouble getting out this a.m. Boy, was it slick! The kids in school were all wound up. Ah, to have 423 little barometers running around. LOL I'm not certain if we will be attending school tomorrow. If this keeps up, I think not.
I have no idea what is for dinner tonight. I could kick myself for not taking something out. Hope everyone has a great day in their homesteads.
Marcia
