    Default Lightning Rods

For all of you that live in older homes, do you have a lightning rod on your house?  I was thinking about them earlier.  I remember as a child in rural Oklahoma all farmhouses had one on them.  I don't ever see them anymore, or only once in a blue moon.  I guess that they are a relic of the past.

We have a few on the roof, but your right, they don't put them on any of the new houses. "they" say there not needed anymore because the lightning will hit the taller things first, which is not true, some of the time. We have many tall trees around the house that are taller and our house has taken a direct hit twice I'm just so glad we have everthing on surge protectors and nothing caught fire, but in our case I really think they helped out alot, when we get the roof replaced whenever its needed, we are going to insist they go back up. Ah, gotta love those midwest/plains summer storms

We had several on our previous house, a victorian, and I thought they were so neat. They had light purple glass balls on them and one had a really pretty weathervane on it. I wish we could have taken them with us but it would have taken away so much character from the old house.
