Thumbs up Down on the Homestead - July 4 - 10th

Good morning everyone. It rained last night and looks like more rain today. We did take the kids to the fireworks though in Souris, about 25 minutes away last night. They had fun and the wind was up enough there wasn't any bugs.

Today I need to deliver the papers and then once done, coming home to make it a day of rest. I plan on doing a bit of quilting and some reading and playing some games with the kids.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.

Well, I want to rest today but I also want the back porch cleared off. When we had a mower guy out to give an estimate we had the junk pile moved to the deck. We did not hire him, as it will be cheaper and better to have a guy come disk it al under (it will also make planning next years garden spot easier and planting a few trees in September easier as well!)
I want to sit on the deck tonight and watch the neighbors do their fireworks. We are not doing any since the prairie grass is so tall. Other than that I plan to rest, read, and play.
MJ and I did a mini bible study together this morning. It was the first one we have done in years. I am hoping it will not be the last!

    Good morning!

I am exhausted today...we have been bringing in hay for 3 days straight now. A storm is brewing so DH and the boys are out in the field trying to bring in the last of it.

I have strawberry jam on the go and will have 4 jars of that made soon. Delaney is going to a birthday party this afternoon so I will pop into town and do some grocery shopping (great loss leaders this week) and stock up the pantry. I have to return an item as well to Canadian Tire.

We have been doing alot of BBQ'ing this weekend, easy and quick and been going through tons of lemonade. Quenches the thirst for thirsty balers!

    Have a wonderful day!!

Take it easy Carolyn, get some much needed rest. It's harder to bounce back when energy or emotional energy get drained or used up as it were.

    Quiet day here.

    Happy Birthday America!!!!

    Guten Tag ladies,

Happy Independence Day to all my American friends. I hope you all enjoyed the celebrations for your great nation.

I've been very busy the past few days so apart from quick peeks in here, I've been missing in action. I've been getting ready for my sister's visit, buying birthday presents for two sons and working at the store. I want to get everything done before my sister arrives as I'd like her time here to be stress-free and I don't want to be running around doing chores while she's here.

Yesterday I had a young girl of about 12 watch me in the store while I was knitting. I asked her if she knitted and she got all shy and went to her mother and sisters. Her mum whispered that she was shy with strangers and was a "special needs" girl. I took my knitting over to her and showed her a few times how to do a stitch. Her mother said it was the first time she'd ever taken much notice of anyone she'd just met. I told her it was simple to do and that even though it looked difficult, it really was just one stitch done over and over again. She seemed to like that idea. I told them about the kids' knitting sites on the web and then they left. Her mum came back a few minutes later and thanked me again for showing her and said they'd been trying to get her interested in doing some craft for a long time and she'd never shown interest until now. The mum was going to buy some knitting supplies and see if she would make a scarf. I was so pleased! Imagine, me, the non-crafts person inspiring someone to knit. Crikey, wonders never cease!

I hope all you ladies rest as much as you can today. I'll "see" you all tomorrow.

Good evening!! I haven't posted in at least a week. It's been a crazy week around here! lol
Well, dh and I had no children here last night and for half of today. That was wonderful. Just the break I needed!! We went out for dinner last night, then did some shopping and browsing. This morning we went out for breakfast and then did some more shopping. lol
I bought a 5-in-1 apple tree today so dh planted it for me. Then I picked about 3/4 of a lb of blueberries in my yard. I had just put blueberries on my grocery list, but when I was finished, I was able to cross them off because I haven't even hit all the bushes yet!!
Our garden will be producing nicely very soon I think. All the plants are starting to flower and my green beans & peas have some started.
I'm hoping things will settle down this week. lol
We're going camping in a couple of weeks, so I am have to start getting ready for that soon too!
Dinner tonight was a turkey breast, mashed potatoes and green beans.

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful evening!
    Enjoy the holiday!!

checking in late-- had a wonderful time at the reunion at my house. Lots of people, even more food. Good times, even music! (a friend stopped by and made my piano DANCE)

We had a thunderstorm as the first ones arrived at my house-- lightening struck at tree in the field south of my house, not once-- but TWICE-- the myth is wrong. Lightening does strick more than once in one place.

Here's a picture of my closest blood relative-- mom/dad, brother, sister, kids, nieces, nephews and great nephews.

Good morning everyone. Denise, what a wonderful looking family. Thanks for sharing your picture with us.

It looks like rain here again this morning. I'm hoping not, the gardens need time to dry out.

Today I have on my schedule:

    ~deliver papers
~continue to work on organizing my sewing room
    ~complete work on my kitchen
~do my caretaking job at he post office
    ~read tonight

I also in there somewhere have to make a trip to the library to drop off some books so I don't have any late fees and then I need to make a trip over to Brandon to pay for a "cookstove" my mom bought me. Woo hoo I can't wait to get it home.

    Have a wonderful day everyone.

    HI all.

Sunshine it sounds like you had a nice party. I hope you were feeling better for it.
Not a whole lot going on here. Last night we had a friend over and set off some fireworks which in turn set off my daughter. We stopped because she was crying. The only thing that is allowed to be loud at our house is her.

The house is pretty clean so on the agenda today
    ~laundry
~finish some relish I started a couple days ago.
~ work on my aunt's rug.
We have lots of leftovers from lastnight so that will be dinner and lunch.
Have a great day on the homesteads everyone!

Good morning!! It is raining pretty steadily here this morning. I suppose we need it as it hasn't rained in a while.

Sounds like you had a great time Sunshine with your reunion!!

DH took the boys fishing this morning. I'm kind of surprised that they didn't come back home with this rain! dh is not the type of person to sit in the rain for fishing!! lol The things we do for our kids!

Today I need to do 2 loads of laundry, make garlic bagels, make white bread, fold some clothes from the weekend that I didn't get to, vacuum the main rooms and the livingroom furniture, straighten the master closet, inventory the fridge for leftovers & plan them into my menu, clean the toilets, check the t.p. stocks in the bathrooms and clean the mirrors/tv screens.

Breakfast was oatmeal and a banana.
Lunch will be egg salad sandwiches, jello and raisins
Dinner is hot dogs, soup of some kind, italian ice and orange/apple slices.

Well, I had a late start today so I must get going on my chores.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!!

Good morning everyone! You all sound like you've been busy on your homesteads.

I haven't posted for a few day because I've been helping my nephew's family out. Friday they were in a car accident, it wasn't their fault, and it is a miracle they are alive. My nephew's wife is bruised up with a few cuts and so far she is not having any problems with her pregnancy; she's 18 weeks. She is having neck pain now too. My great-nephew is ok and my great-niece is bruised and cut up from her window exploding. My nephew's back is pretty sore. They are seeing their regular doctor today to have everything checked out again. They had some pretty big angels protecting them!

Unless I need to go help my nephew's family I plan on getting caught up on my housework and laundry. I will also cut dd and ds#2 hair. If there's time I need to get some baking done.

Another busy day on this homestead. Hope you all have a great day!
    ~ Tina ~

    Good morning ladies.

I'm not working at our store today but I'll be very busy here at home. My sister arrives tomorrow and I have a lot of things to do before he gets here. She rang yesterday and asked if it was okay to invite some friends of hers who live near me to dinner while she's here. It will give me a good reason to make my hummingbird cake. Yipee! I also have to make some rye for DH and white bread for DS.

My main tasks today will be ironing, a general tidy up and preparing the guest room.

Enjoy this day on your homesteads.

I went back to work today- and was blessed/cursed with getting to work with a float nurse (thankfully he was upbeat about it and competent) and got to orient a new nurse as well.

Came home to severe thunderstorms, tornado watch, etc. Dd lost her soft ball game tonight, so the season is over for us. Good thing too, I guess as some of the parents got in a heated discussion (AKA fight) before/during/after the game. Dd swears she won't play again.

    Good morning!

Busy weekend here and I'm glad everything is back to normal today.

Saturday: DH and I went kayaking on the Great Egg Harbor river and it was wonderful. Took a 3 hour run and stopped for pizza along the way. The weather was perfect and except for DH flipping his kayak over (again!) the day was perfect as well.

Sunday: Went to church then down to my cousin's for a bbq. Dropped Ashlee off at Ally's to sleepover.

Monday: Picked Ashlee and Ally up and took them to the parade. Took them back to Ally's afterwards, caught a nap in the afternoon as Courtney was VERY busy and I needed a break, lol.

Tuesday: DH back to work (old job) lol, kids are still sleeping and Courtney is having some cereal. I made my list up for the day and fine-tuned my resume and cover letter. There is a job opening at the high school in the attendance office. It's a 10 month position, so I'd have the same schedule as the kids. Only downside is having to put Courtney in pre-school 3 days a week but I fear we can't go on like this financially. I have to go to work. BUT I'd be off all summer! Yippee!

So I'm off to work on my chore list after I finish here. Have a great day!

Danielle- sounds like a fun filled weekend! Good luck with the job as well.

Looks like we are headed for more storms here today-- severe thunderstorm and flash flood watches and warnings posted already this morning. So I guess most of my day will be spent indoors.

I promised my mom, I'd take lunch to her and my dad, so I'll throw something together and take it there (8 miles away) I have plenty of leftovers from Sunday that need taken care of--- either eaten or frozen today.

I plan on setting my sewing machines (I have 2) up on the kitchen table, and working with my dd to make some blessing gowns for charity.
