I LOVED reading your experience Calico, btw did you walk to town? How old are your children? Would you try this for a longer time period, say a whole weekend? Could you shut off your phone, I know I couldn't because of my Mom's cancer.

Kindred~ no, I didn't walk to town....should have, didn't, too hot....see I was wimpin' out...lol....that's when I was really thinking about how we do things by choice, back then it was necessity! They would have walked the 1.5 km to the post office or store because that's the way it was...in nice weather I will walk to the post office but more for exercise and a leisurely walk. DH took the van as he had to drop off Delaney at a friends and then swung by the store for his coffee.

My kids are 15 and 14 year old boys and Delaney is 7.

I would love to do this again...I think we could go the weekend. I found it best to have meals and activities planned and to try and forsee "problems" NOW, I'm sure CJ "thinks" she's going to throw in a winter challenge That would be much more difficult.

I thought about the phone as well. Yes, we could just turn off the ringers and the answering machine would pick up any important messages. We were outside most of the day, I think DH answered one call. Good idea though!

It sure was a great experience and thought provoking to boot!

Heather, that sounds fantastic!!! I can't wait to be able to try that myself at home on a more regular basis! DH and I want to eventually live off the grid. I am glad you had such a great time doing it too!!! Congratulations!!
