Homesteading club members - discussion #4 (I think)
I think this is discussion number 4 - if not thats okay, will leave it at number 4.
Here are the questions to discuss this coming week.
~what modern appliances/conveniences could you go without.
~what modern appliances/conveniences would you not be able to go without?
~what appliances do you think the true homesteaders might have wished they had or something similar to what we have today?
~do you think that life is easier with the modern conveniences we have now or do you think the pioneers were content with what they had?
~how do you think the pioneer "women" would have felt when a new convenience came out?
~Do you think they would have ran out and got it right away or waited?

~what modern appliances/conveniences could you go without. Dishwasher, microwave and if necessary the electric stove and heater since we have a wood stove the clothes dryer is nice to have but we can hang our clothes to dry if we had to.
~what modern appliances/conveniences would you not be able to go without? It would be tough without a fridge and the fans and a/c would be tough to give up too.
~what appliances do you think the true homesteaders might have wished they had or something similar to what we have today? Refridgerator and a washing machine.
~do you think that life is easier with the modern conveniences we have now or do you think the pioneers were content with what they had? It depends, we are slaves to our conveniences and while the pioneers probably would have enjoyed a few things they were in much better shape and didn't suffer because the electricity goes off like we do.
~how do you think the pioneer "women" would have felt when a new convenience came out? A little sceptical at first then amazed when she saw what it does.
~Do you think they would have ran out and got it right away or waited? I'm sure there were more important things so I'm thinking that they would wait.

~what modern appliances/conveniences could you go without.
*breadmaker, microwave, and many of thr "time saving" little appliances we have today
~what modern appliances/conveniences would you not be able to go without?
*Electricity, refrigeration and my swamp cooler!
~what appliances do you think the true homesteaders might have wished they had or something similar to what we have today?
*washing machine, dryer and refrigerator
~do you think that life is easier with the modern conveniences we have now or do you think the pioneers were content with what they had?
*I think if you do not know any different, then you learn to be content with what you have.
~how do you think the pioneer "women" would have felt when a new convenience came out?
*I think some would have loved them, like the sewing machine, but would have wondered it the money could have been spent better just to survive.
~Do you think they would have ran out and got it right away or waited?
*I think most waited. Life was hard and people could not thrw around money like people seem to do today.

~what modern appliances/conveniences could you go without.
I could go without tv, not that there isn't some shows I love to watch, but I think it becomes too much of the focus for our family at night. Breadmaker, I do own two but love to make them in my KA and my oven.
~what modern appliances/conveniences would you not be able to go without?
My KA, with my bad back, i would have a hard time making bread. The washing machine, same thing, as it would be too painful.
~what appliances do you think the true homesteaders might have wished they had or something similar to what we have today?
KA, frig/freezer, washingmachine, furnace
~do you think that life is easier with the modern conveniences we have now or do you think the pioneers were content with what they had?
I think they just didn't have enough hours in a day, when you read their stories, you see how they drop in bed. Even when I was healthy, there wern't alot of days that I was that tired. The stress of making sure you have enough wood and food must have been over whelming at times.
~how do you think the pioneer "women" would have felt when a new convenience came out?
They may have laughed, thinking of only rich people using them. Or maybe wishing they could some day afford it.
~Do you think they would have ran out and got it right away or waited?
I doubt most of them had enough money stashed away, for something they didn't have to have, since they had been doing without it all along.
You didn't ask this question, but one thing I bet they LOVED was when dishsoap/ hairsoap was aviailable. They use to use lard in the soap, making stuff icky to wash hair or dishes. I recall that talk alot in Frontier House.
