Down on the Homestead - Aug. 15 - 21st
Good morning everyone. Its raining here today, actually drizzling. We really don't need the rain, but it will help the garden and I won't need to water it.
Today I'm making a day of rest. I'll do the papers and then I'm coming home to read and quilt. Thats all I have planned for today.
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Good morning CJ and all to follow,
Today I want to do some baking. It has been wonderful here and I want to get some muffins made up for the week ahead. We start back to school tomorrow and the kids start back on Wednesday.
I can truely say I have really enjoyed my summer.
I think I'm ready to go back now.
I'm not sure what else I'll do. I would like to finsh 2 purses that I have been working on for a couple days. For dinner tonight I think we will have chicken of some kind. I'd also like to wash the comforter today and hang it on the line. We did all the rest of the laundry yesterday and dried it in the drier because they said it was going to rain.

Happy Sunday!
It's been raining here today. I think we're going to have to build an ark!
We're home from church and are about to start getting all our porch stuff out of the garage (put it away so the hurricane winds wouldn't blow it everywhere). We need to get all the yard debris picked up and dh is going to work on the cabinets he's building some more (staining them).
Later we'll hit the beach if it's not raining.

Hi everyone.
I didn't post yesterday as things got too crazy here before I went to work. The new neighbours next door have sent DH into a frenzy!
She is a forist so when they moved in we thought they bought the small house with huge garden so they could grow flowers and generally relax with their son (they are 30ish) in the lovely environment. But no. Over the past couple of months they've pulled out gardens and layed gravel everywhere, and then built a big shed that last week they put white metal walls on!!
They told us that they knew it didn't look great but they needed the shed for a workshop and garage. So yesterday morning at 4.30am DH and I got up and went to our local farmers market to buy lots of trees to plant. While I was at the store DH planted all the trees along the fence line.
The only saving grace is that all the next door construction was done with recycled materials, oh, and I get to have lots more vegetation here, which I love. When I drove in the driveway last night, next door neighbour had started to paint the white metal walls green and DH had his trees along the fence. What a difference a day makes.
Today I'll be preparing for my friend Susan's visit. I'm really excited because she's not been here for three years! Susan and I share much the same philosohpy about most things so we chat away for hours and I never know where the time goes when I'm with her. I have quite a bit to do in the house and I still have a couple of hydrangeas to move in the garden, so I'll be busy today. It's the good kind of busy though so I'm not too fussed about it.
I also have to do laundry and some baking.
Quilter, it's good to see you safe after your hurricane. I saw the devastation on the news, I guess there's lots to clean up now.
CJ, good to hear you're having a rest day. I hope you enjoyed it.
Marcia, have fun back at school.
Waves to all who follow.

Good evening ladies,
We had summer today
The sun was shining and it was hot.
We all slept in this morning and missed church. DH had to work. After breakfast DD and I drove out to my parents about 40 min away. Stopped at a garage sale and found an antique settee and chair for $75. It has a rope seat on it and just needs a good cleaning, rub down with tung oil and some new cushions. I have been wanting something like this for years. My dad loaded it into his mini van and will bring it up tomorrow.
Supper is roast beef which has been cooking in the crockpot all day and apples right from the tree for dessert.
Bethany - sounds like you are going to have a good visit with your friend.
See you all tomorrow

I sure wish it would rain here. No rain for months and they're predicting drought conditions.
I need to go pick tomatoes before my dog eats them all. He's discovered them and I'm having trouble keeping him out of the garden.

Laura - I'd be happy to send you some rain!
I got some work done in the garden between rain showers yesterday and need to do just a wee bit more updating in my garden journal.
The cat seems to be getting better. He's definitely got a good appetite, he just doesn't want his dry cat food.
(He's been very happy with all the tuna, slamon, bread, chicken, etc. we've given him recently trying to get him on the mend).
Today is errand day. I have a lot of places to go so I need to start getting in gear for that. I'm sure ds and I will get rained on several times.
I need to start getting my first list of library books together for our homeschool year and get them on hold later this week. I'm missing one list I was working on, so I need to locate it. I'm also continuing to pour through cookbooks trying to find more recipes for my 'homemade' cookbook.
Happy Monday everyone!

Good morning!
We had a relaxing weekend. We didn't do much....tried to rest. I watched the Olympics. I like the swimming and gymnastic events.
We bought Chris a new bed Sat. and the boys helped me put it together for him. It looks good in their newly decorated room. It wasn't a frugal purchase, but it was a needed one cause when we remodeled their room, we did away with their bunkbeds they had in there and he has been sleeping in sleeping bags. He was camping in~ LOL!
Richard went to work with my MIL this morning. She is a business manager of a newspaper and she will have him put together ad inserts for the paper. When she needs help, she sometimes calls him so he can get extra money.
I have to work today, but need to leave early to take Chris and Richard to the dentist at 2. Another unfrugal expense. They have a cavity that needs filled. UGH!
Tomorrow will be the first day of school for the children. I can't wait for them to start back. Chris and Dakota don't want to go back and Richard does. So tomorrow morning should be an exciting one.
I wish you all a great day!~*Michelle*~

Good morning everyone. Looks like a nice day here after rain and thunderstorms yesterday.
As soon as the papers are here, I need to get them delivered. Ds#1 wants to walk the route this morning, so will see how heavy the papers are.
Once home I need to go through more clothes and put a bit away. I was able to get some heavy sweatshirts on Sat. at the bag sale and for now they are a bit too warm. I also need to make a list as to what else we need for the winter.
I also want to get more quilting done. I was able to do another 2 rows on dgs's quilt and I need to design a quilt for the challenge I have here.
Later tonight I need to clean the post office.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning! It's been raining and drizzling here too this morning!! On the news last night, they compared the rainy days to hot days for the summer so far. Hot starts at 85 degrees. We've only had about 2 weeks worth of summer weather so far this season!!! That is ridiculous. But, there isn't anything we can do about it! lol
Today I need to:
do 2 loads of laundry
mail coupons for a coupon train
check the t.p. stock in the bathrooms
clean the glass in the livingroom
clean all the mirrors
clean out the fridge
clean the toilets
go through the school supplies
inventory the fridge
swiffer the main rooms
bring dd to drop off a job application
make laundry softener
Breakfast was peaches & cream farina and half a bagel
Lunch is tuna sandwiches, carrot sticks and peaches
Dinner will be jambalaya fettuccine and sweet cream biscuits
Well, I must get on with my day as I have a lot to do!!
lol
Have a great day!!

Good morning ladies.
It's Tuesday, Susan arrives today!! Before she gets here I have a lot to do. I'm baking bread, orange and coconut cake and walnut and ginger cookies and making pea soup for dinner. I also have to vacuum and wash the floors, clean up the front verandah - it has half a forest of leaves out there after the windy days we've had lately. If I have time I'll go to the store to pick up some milk and cream. This is going to be good!!
Chriss, what a great buy with your settee and chair. I wish I could find bargains like that. enjoy!
Hugs to all who post later.

Hi Everyone! A quick post, I haven't had time to read all your entries yet either.
Payday is today and I have a list of errands. I did five of them on my lunch hour. I will have to run to Costco and the grocery store tonight after work. Finishing up one birthday gift before the weekend and another for next week. I need to work on he Homestead challenge too!
I now have enough, shampoo, conditioner and bath soap to last until Janurary, in my stockpile! WooHoo! I also was able to find a brand new T-shirt for $3.00 and some underwear on sale at the Fashion Bug. I really needed these before Winter. I am only buying what's on my list for the errands tonight.
Im saving money to fill the oil tank. It's getting to be that time and if I end up not having enough money to fill the whole tank at the reduced rate, then I will get as much as I can afford.
I hope you all have a great day and will try to get back here later!

Goodmorning All!
Bethany, enjoy your visit!
Today has been a very productive one at our home. We've got 3 loads of laundry washed and hung on the line, 5 quarts of applesauce and 5 pints of peach jam made and canned, school is being worked on, and Jaysn got a job!!!! He will be throwing freight at our little grocery store in town from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. He's thrilled!!!!
I still need to bake 4 loaves of bread, pick the beans, blanch and freeze them, make some phone calls, go to the library and do some cleaning. Yep, keeping busy and out of trouble!!!!

Good Monday evening all,
I'm with Quiltermom for going to Bethany's to eat
Bethany- I hope you have a really good visit with your friend. BTW you can come garage saleing with me anytime!
It has been a busy day here. Made pudding, yogurt, and bread this morning. Also put a crockpot of Lentil soup on for supper tonight. Made the salad this morning too.
My dad delivered the furniture today and DH complimented me on my bargain hunting. He also agreed to help me fix it up.
Did some knitting this afternoon and started cutting up some strips for my Homestead challenge. I should be able to finish the cutting and start crocheting by Wednesday.
Have a lovely evening everyone!
