Default Were you born in the wrong time?

Often times I think I was born in the wrong era. I long for a simpler time, with less things and less hassles. I would have been well suited for the 1800's. Was anyone else born at the wrong time, or am I alone?

I think I should have been born in the Victorian time era, but when I truly think about it I'm glad I was born when I was. I can't imagine life w/o medicines and w/o some of the conveniences we have today. In Victorian days they took 2 days just to get the washing done. But I'm a Victorian girl at heart.

I firmly believe we can live a simple life in today's society. We just need to unclutter in all areas of our lives. It can be done.

    Marcia, your not alone.

I'm with you Marcia. Not that I would really want all the work associated with that time period not to mention the dangers. I do believe that what I am looking for is the morals and values of that time period. Priorities were different then, more community like even though sometimes people lived many miles away from the nearest neighbour. Respect for each other and our environment were not "crusades" but an every day part of life...for everyone.

I thought I was but now I think I am in this time so the "old ways" don't die out. I know I could live (and pretty well I think) if all moters dies and electricity was cut off. And I know a LOT of people who whould then be coming to my house to learn a lot of the things I know and they think are goofy.

I like living in this time because I was meant to be - but I enjoy using my hands and head and practising old fashioned skills. I don't get stressed when the power is out, or the phone, or TV, I enjoy being snowed in with my kids. And because I do so much for myself I honestly feel like there is nothing I can not do!! I've changed a driveshaft in the middle of Scottsdale Rd. in a temp. of 109 degrees and never needed to call anyone! But I love the newness and developments in society especially scientifically. I love to see people using their heads!

I love the values of the older times. Divorce was not as prevalent as it is today. People appreciated what they had.

I like the modern times because new cures and medical miracles are discovered every day. I live 500 miles from my mother yet I get to see her about 3 times a year. We can travel to see each other and it takes about 8 1/2 hours. It would not be so if we lived in the 1800s. Even when we don't see each other she is just a phone call away.

My DH says this to me all the time! He wishes he grew up during the 30's and 40's. I like the idea of living in the past, but I do enjoy some modern conveniences very much. I can do without the TV and even electricity as long as I could take advantage of solar power with battery backup. I like simple pleasures such as quilting and gardening. I also am truly thankful for rights we have earned as women, even though I'm not a huge activist I admire those that have stood up for women in the past on lots of issues including voting, birth control and equal rights. For me I don't think it's a straight yes or no answer.

    Same here, Marcia.

I love everything late Victorian era to the turn of the century. (Even the "roaring twenties" don't sound bad.

Give me an oceanfront amusement park with a steam carousel and salt water taffy over video arcades anyday.

It was more work around the house back then granted, but at least, the women were around to be full time wives and mothers. We've been convenienced right out of the home to go out to work only to have more work when we come home again. Not my idea of progress!
