Down on the Homestead Oct 24th - 30th
Good morning all!!
I hope no one minds my starting the new thread, but I was ready to say good morning!! lol
It is overcast & windy again today! Most of the family is off to a pop warner football game and won't be home until around 1. I don't go to the away games, so Ryan and I are staying home.
I've already done my morning routine, have lunch prepared, and have applesauce cooking in the crockpot. I'd like to cut up one of the pumpkins I got yesterday and cook it. And of course roast the seeds. I bought one extra just for me to do this.
Breakfast this morning was just leftover muffins & cinnamon rolls and choice of fresh fruit as they all needed to leave by 7:30 this morning.
Lunch will be egg salad sandwiches, raisins & jello
Dinner is chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, country gravy and corn. I might whip up some dinner rolls. I don't know yet.
I'm going to get a jump start on tomorrow's housecleaning today also since everybody is gone. I need to run out tomorrow and have bunch of prescriptions filled. Every time I need to run an errand and I have housework to do, I dont' seem to get it all done.
When they return from the football game, dh and I will just hang out and watch football.

Oh the fried elephan ears recipe!! Here it is:
1 1/2 cups of milk
2 Tbsps sugar
1 tsp salt
6 Tbsps shortening
2 pkgs dry yeast
4 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon mixed with 1/2 cup sugar
oil for frying
Combine first 4 ingredients in pan; heat until shortening is melted; do not boil. Cool mixture to lukewarm. Add yeast; stir until dissolved. Stir in flour, 2 cups at a time, beating until smooth after each addition. Put mixture in a greased bowl; cover; let rise until double in bulk (about 30 minutes).
Heat oil in a large pan.
Pinch off pieces of dough about the size of golf balls. Stretch each piece of dough into a thin 6" to 8" circle. Drop stretched dough into hot grease, one at a time; fry until dough rised to top, turn and place on absorbant paper.
Combine cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle generously over hot, drained elephant ears.
****************************************
Ok Ladies I'm off to get the housework done!
I hope you all have a great and blessed day!!

Good morning everyone. Remember anyone can start this thread so I'm glad you did Dawn. Its been so cool in the morning I don't want to get out from under the blankets.
I don't have much planned today. I'll probably do some quilting and some cutting up of material for pj's. I like to get everything cut and then sew has I have a few minutes here or there, just like I do with quilting.
Our movie night last night turned out to be a bummer. It wasn't a good movie so we ended up in bed much earlier than we had planned. The kids are still sleeping though, so I guess they must have been tired.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Good morning girls!
we 've got lots to do today - every weekend is like this it seems. Breakfast was homemade hashbrowns, scramblers, and the yummiest bacon that we get from our little local grocer - they have a proper butcher and we get fresh, grainfed no hormone meat - its awesome! I don't eat Breakfast but I saved some bacon for my BLT at lunch!
My baby boy roosters are begining to "er eeh er eeh er" its so cute to hear them trying!!
We have to make a run to get hay and alfalfa and then we will be working on the basement again today - finishing drywalling and insulation in my craft room and laundry room.
That will take the whole day but I hope to be able to sneak in some sewing time and working on Painting athe tank I drew on Damons wall!
Have a lovely Day, Yall!!

Dawn ~ thank you for the recipe. The kids think it might be similar to what we call Beaver Tails which they love. I had to promise to make them soon.!
Andrea and I were off to church early this morning. The boys stayed home and DH had to work at 11.
Made perogies for lunch (not homemade though). It will be a quiet afternoon. I have a load of laundry almost finished in the washer to put on the line outside as it is a gorgeous sunny, warm day today. I need to make some brownies and puddings for school lunches this afternoon. Other than that I plan on knitting and working on Christmas presents.
Andrea is quite sore this morning. She fell down our hill under the apple trees yesterday morning while chasing the dogs. She got so fed up she decided to pick up all the apples that were lying on the ground and rake some leaves. Now she can barely move.
Roast pork and rice for dinner tonight.
Have a blessed day!

Hello!
It sounds like you are all having pleasent days!
Chriss- I hope Andrea is feeling better soon..youch!
I have been doing a little bit of everything today. I'm trying to get the kitchen clean, but then when I go down to fold laundry I saunter over to my sewing area...I need to stay focused. I also need to dust and vacuum today!
Late last night I decided to start working on my handmade Christmas cards. I have a few designs in mind, but I'm still playing with some ideas. I will work on them later in the evening. They are so fun to make and I really look forward to designing them. Probably because for so many years I said that I was going to make my own cards and well, last year was the first year I did them and not only were they a blast to make, everyone loved them! Who else here makes Christmas cards?
Okay, I am off to finish cleaning the kitchen and all my other chores. Have a great Sunday everyone!

for Andrea!
Ok Chriss, now we need the Beaver Tails recipe.
Thanks for the vegetarian lasagne one - it sounds fabulous!
We've been busy today. I mowed and got a bit of yard debris hauled to the road. I've been working on digging out a new garden spot. I figured this was quicker than waiting until we get the raised beds moved (the ones that flooded). I helped dh install 2 more windows and now he's working on putting in ds's new bedroom door. I have just a bit more to go on digging and I hope I can do that today. Then I'll need to start prepping the area.
Tonight I think I'll try to sew some little drawer sachets made from a silk blouse I got at a yard sale. It was only 25¢ and didn't fit me well so I cut it up (I love the print).
Happy Sunday everyone!

Hello everyone, it's Monday morning here and I'm wortking at the store again today.
Yesterday while I was there I made a list of the things I did so you could see what my typical day is:
I left home at 8.30am and stopped to buy my favourite mag - british country living. There was this little old man sitting outside the newspaper shop, he was selling tickets in a raffle, the prize being a newly made coffee table with inlaid top. The money was going to the Landsborough RSL Club, he was the president, Mr George Pike. We talked for ages, he's been living in my town since 1926! he was the first pineapple farmer here.
I arrived at the store at about 9.10am and took out some thiings we have sitting outside all day, did the cashdrawer, restored data from the CD to the computer, rang DH to tell him about the radar speed trap near the town.
Had a couple of sales, then a Chinese lady taught me how to play the jade solitaire set we have. She played the game twice, with one ball remaining. Now I know how to do it.
Made tea and read my mag - more sales. Said "hello", "hi, how are you?" 5 million times.
Talked to a Canadian couple who just arrived here and were having lots of trouble coping with the heat, other than that, they loved being here.
Worked on my hooking (rug). More sales, more "hellos".
DH came in with two new electric fans, he also brought me a salad sandwich and some cold water. His blood's worth bottling some days.
He set up the fans and I felt like I was in a wild tunnel! When he left I moved the fans.
Selling, selling, talking, selling, reading, cold water, "hello".
I heard this on the radio which reminded me of Darlene: "Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe."
Selling, sitting, smiling.
I watched a pair of eagles flying and then resting on a tree just outside my window. I wished I bought my opera glasses/binoculars with me.
Talked to a lady about organics and then made up a gift basket for her containing all organic baby products.
Read the paper.
Selling selling selling.
By now it was around 4.30pm, I was lisitening to the radio and heard a "severe weather alert". It was thunderstorms with hail and it was heading our way. I starting packing my things up, brought in everything from outside, rang DH to warn him about the storm and closed the store - 4.55pm. Five minutes early - bad me!
Drove home and got to Landsborough just as the first rain was falling. Stopped at the grocery store to buy milk. Talked to someone I know and got home just as the rain was stopping! There was only about 15 minutes of rain and no hail! LOL! Anyhow, it was good to be home again.

Hi all,
~Bethany, what a busy day you have had!
~ Chriss, hope Andrea is feeling less sore soon. I myself kind of like a sore day reminds me how hard I worked the day before.
I had an extra little girl here last night Alex had her Birthday party yesterday and she had a friend spend the night. So now I'm beat. They were up well past midnight.
We had play practice today and bofore we went I got 4 loads of laundry hung on the line. It is dry now and I need to pull it in before the sun goes down.
Laika and I went on a 2 mile walk. We have the obedience test this week, and have been woking hard. I hope they will get their good citizens awards and that may help with the home owners ins.
Mike wants hamburgers for dinner. I say if you feel like making them, more power to ya! LOL
I need to finish up a purse I've sold a little later. I want to deliver it to school tomorrow. I have sold aqbout 7 of them and have 10 more in 2 different shops in Rolla.
Hope everyone has a wonderfully peaceful day.
Marcia

Good afternoon everyone. I can't believe how fast this day has gone!
Praying that Andrea gets to feeling better, poor thing!
Jeff, Josh and Chris got up early this mrning to go hunting and it paid off!
Jeff got a deer!!! Chris called me to ask if our neighbor could come out and help show them how to gut the thing so I did. Cam (our neighbor) and I headed out to where they were in the van and hiked down to the river. We came across a road on our way right above where the deer was so Chris hiked back and got the truck so we did not have to pack the deer out as far. Jeff, Josh and Cam skinned the thing and now it is hanging in Cam's garage. I think Jeff and Chris are going back out again later to see if Chris can get a deer also. This is the last day of early season so he wants one bad!
I cooked up Chris's pheasant that he brought home yesterday in the crockpot and it was pretty good! I had never had pheasant before. As soon as Josh and Chris get the kitchen cleaned up, I'll be able to get in there and bake some bread. We are out and will need at least 4 loaves to make it until Thursday. Busy week ahead of us.
It's getting really cold here and I had to throw an extra quilt on the bed last night. It felt so good to just lay there under the covers this morning... We got some snow pellets/freezing rain earlier today and I have a feeling we may get snow tonight. It sure feels like it.
I'm really missing going to church and I can't wait until hunting season is over so we can go again. I still have my quiet time with the Lord, but I miss worshipping with other believers and I miss my pastor's sermons. It's just a long drive for us and with the weather starting to get bad, I don't drive up there without Jeff.
You all be blessed!

Hi Ladies--
Bethany--It's already Monday there?
Today Steve and I went to town to mail off a netflix dvd and pick up my prescription. To bad I had to pay full price when our new Ins kicks in next Monday..I only had 3 pills left,so it was a must. Cost me $22.46
We came home and I gave Steve,Jackson and Katie each a haircut. I do ok cutting Jackson and Steve's but I get nervous cutting Katie's.I hope it's not gapped to much
I finished 2 loads laundry from yesterday. Watched part of the race with Steve.
Steve had to fix our mailbox. The lid broke off (the part holding the lid on was rusted). Our mail lady will be thrilled...I think she was getting upset cause she kept shoving the lid IN the box everyday lol
I have a roast in the oven(wish it would hurry up already) and made homemade chocolate pie for dessert.
After dinner I have bathes to give and then I'll just be waiting to watch American Dreams and Desp Housewives

Thanks everyone for the hugs and prayers for Andrea. She has taken a couple of Tylenol and gone to bed. She does feel good that she worked so hard though.
Not sure where my recipe for Beaver Tails is right now but I will dig it out and post it.
Kim ~ What a great way to use a blouse. I will have to remember that. I love sachets. Maybe I can find something at a garage sale.
Bethany ~ your day sounds like fun. I would love to own my own shop. Hey, that's one of my mom's favourite mags too! She's a Brit missing home even though she hasn't lived there in since she was 14

Its Monday!!
I had the weekend off so this midnight shifter is up bright and early! I'm sure I'll regret it later on but I can always take a quick nap.
Today the weather is supposed to be in the 60's so I'll be able to hang some clothes out to dry and take care of some outdoor chores. Raking leaves to cover my flower beds will probably be a good idea.
Did some MUCH needed decluttering in the bathroom and linen closet. I'm quite proud of myself as it looks so clean. Threw out old meds, etc It had so much clutter for being such a small room!
Going to have to go through the fridge and see what needs to be used up for dinner tonight. Dh and I were NOT frugal this weekend thought we did get a few good deals out shopping. Alittle disapointed that we didn't paint the kitchen though. With the colder weather moving in it seems we just get lazy!
