Recommendation for grain grinder
I am just beginning my search for a grain grinder - I need one that is strong enough to grind feed grains for the flerd. But I can't afford a super good one til I start making some income with eggs and what not in the spring - any suggestions. Does anyone have one to sell?

CJ- Do you know anything about the Messerschmidt Family grain system available at
WWW.urbanhomemaker.com
Its not as expensive and has a meat grinder attachment and a flaker. It has a hand base and /or powerbase. I hand crank ice cream so I am wondering if a hand crank would be good enough???

Kimmee, I've seen one of those, but if your looking at grinding grain for animals, would you not need a differant one?
I have a WhisperMill grainmill. I checked all the other ones and found the WhisperMill to be the quietest and it has a lifelong warranty.
When I went to purchase my grainmill, I wanted a non electric one, but dh refused to let me get one because I suffer from fibromyalgia and he was concerned that grinding it by hand would become very painful. I'm so very thankful he stood his ground on that one.
If your only grinding grain for homebaking I would highly recommend a WhisperMill. If your looking at grinding grain for animal feed, I would make sure that you don't need a heavier machine to do all that work. The Urbanhomemaker is excellant at answering e-mails. Send her an e-mail, asking if the grainmill your looking at would be sufficient for what you want to do with it.
Also check out waltonfeed and see what they have. You can also send them an e-mail asking the same question.
I have a friend who grinds all her own grain for her chickens, etc. but she has a huge grainmill that he dh rigged up. I know that a GrainMill such as what the WhisperMill would not work for her.

Right the whisper one will not do feed. It says the Messerschmidt will - and they highly recommended it to me in the email they sent - but I wanted to see if you had had any working knowledge of one - My question was specifically directed at you
