Seeds/plants as gifts
Just curious if any of you give plants or seeds from your garden as gifts?
This was my first year gardening in our house, and I got so excited about it that I went gung-ho. Got many compliments from the neighbors about everything. When I showed pictures to my mother, my boyfriends sisters, and the women here at work, they all said that they would love to have some of those plants.
So I thought for Christmas I'd give them seeds from some of the plants.
Does anyone do this anymore? If you do, how do you go about it? Just give them the seeds, or do up a little container with soil and everything?

I think it's a great idea. It's a gift that I would be happy with. As for the "packaging", I think I'd just give the seeds and instructions on how to grow them and let them decide on where and what to plant them in.

If you do a search here on the forums for printable seed packets, there are a bunch you could print off for your seeds.
You could do a soil mix in a jar gift and decorate the jar top or use a small clay pot and the saucer for a lid and tie it with ribbon.
Lots of possiblities. You could a little garden gift basket. If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. I'd just love a gift of seeds, seedlings or cuttings in a pot. I think it would be great to have seeds in a little package just how Sara suggests. Her other ideas are wonderful too.
Often in the plant nurseries here they only sell really popular plants and the old fashioned plants and the unusal ones are very hard to get. For any gardener, receiving a gardening gift is a joy. I'm sure whoever receives your gifts will be very thankful.

Great suggestions all! Glad you gals think it's a good idea. I wonder if non-gardening people would be happy with them? I'm thinking of my boyfriend's sisters who aren't really into gardening. Maybe they just don't have the time or money though. I guess this year will be the test run, and if all goes well I can do more next year.
