What are you planting this year?
I just kind of finalized my list, so I'm curious about everyone else's. I know that I'll probably end up with a few more things (I get that way when I go the buy my plants - I just see something little that I want and buy it), but here's what I am planning on so far:
1. Tomatos. I actually got seeds for a weeping tomato (I'm a container gardener on a balcony, and these were recommended for containers.)
2. Strawberries. I have pre-ordered two "grow-bags" with 10 strawberry plants each. I still have to figure out the best hardware to rig up for my balcony, since I'm on the top floor and will need to attached something to the railing.
3. Thai Hot Peppers. I found a small "mounding" variety that would work great in a container. I have seeds for this.
4. Basil - I almost ALWAYS grow this, this time I pre-ordered a "variety" sampler pack with 4 different kinds (including a purple one)
5. Blueberries - this is a splurge/experimental thing for me. I don't know anyone who has ever tried growing blueberries in a container, but I pre-ordered one plant, supposed to be good for containers and a more upright "bush" type variety.
My theme this year was "red" until I got to the blueberries :-) I guess since in my experience, Basil flowers are usually white, that I can revise my theme to red, white and blue.
So what is everyone else planning on growing this summer?

Well - we have alot of land -unlandscaped - so I doubt you want to hear everything I ordered but for my veggie garden I ordered several kinds of tomatoes including beefsteak, grape and roma. several kinds of corn, greenbeans (4 kinds ) carrots (2 kinds) squash (4 kinds), cantaloupe - early, watermelon (3 kinds) garlic, onions, tons of differnet chilis, bell peppers, pumpkins, and cucumbers, strawberries, raspberries, grapes, potatoes (3 kinds ) and herbs - includes cilantro parsley rosemary basil catnip marjoram thymeoregano and lemon balm. I also ordered chamomile and echinecea but I never have luck with those.
I ordered tons of roses and peonies and bulbs and some seeds for my perrenial cutting garden as well as trees and several shrubs. and then I ordered crop seed cuz I am planting all of my own feed this year - and hopefully it works!!!

All we plant is tomatoes, bell peppers, basil and parsley. I hope when we buy a house I'll be able to have a small garden, with squash, cucumbers, beans and eggplant.

Mmmmmmm blueberries...make me homesick, but mmmmmmmm

lets see, I'd like to plant some asparagus. If i can call my garden center, I can get on a reserved list so i am guaranteed some.
I'd like to plant maybe a few apple trees, but I don't know that we'll be able to, cost wise.
I will plant the same old flowers I plant everyyear, morning glories and moon flowers, daisies and so on.
We are going to have to replace four of the five arborvitate we put in this year.
but i still have the reciepts, so maybe i can get em replaced for free, they have a one year guarantee.
lets see...i'd love to mess with bulbs this year. we do have some daff's that come up each year, but I want to try some spring planting bulbs that will come up in fall.
I really don't know what else, but everyone's lists sound great!~~ Missy ~~

We'll be planting the same as most of you. We are trying to be 75% self-sufficient with our vegetables this year.
Kimmee, will you sell some of your produce or is it all for your family?

I hope to be able to sell some this year as well as cut flowers - I used to do ok with that - but last year nothing was very "happy" in my over worked overtended Clay!! That and Sammee's big black corn eating nosey in what was working in the garden!! It was my first year gardening here, out in the prairie so I am hoping that I have learned from my mistakes!!

I haven't decided quite all what I want to put in yet this year. I was thinking about some asparagus and some chard. I have never had either of those in my garden before.
Blueberries and raspberries are on my wish list but I don't know if we will get to it this year.

I was just thinking I needed to start planning our garden. I want to expand it and I have not gotten an herb garden done since we moved so that is on the plate as well.

We haven't really decided what we intend to plant yet. I know we will be planting tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, squash, green beans, and peppers. I am not sure what else we will add.

mrsengeseth: Did you by any chance buy your arborvitae at Home Depot? We bought ours there last September and now it's looking quite sad. The needles are all brown and yellowed. Don't know what happened! It has a one-year guarantee so we're hoping they'll replace it for us in the spring.
As for this year, new plants I'm growing from seed are:
black eye susan
shasta daisy
butterfly bush
butterfly weed
moonflower bush
ironweed
red and pink monarda
clemoe
love-in-a-mist
hyacinth bean vine
moonflower vine
cypress vine
purple coneflower
grapes
And new plants I'm planning on ordering are:
umbrella bamboo
lavender
verbena
strawberries
passionflower
With more to come, I'm sure! The more catalogs I get in, the more I want.
