ONION???

I have an onion that has sprouted these about 4 inch green things out of one end. I'd like to try planting it in a pot insiide just for fun. Dh says the green thins go up out of the dirt and I think we plant the whole onion green side down. Possibly were both wrong! Any clue?

The green things are up out of the soil. Plant it so the top of the onion is not covered with dirt. Ya know the place where the green things are growing from...should not be covered with dirt. The other end will be the roots.

I just wanted to update on this. I planted it in a big pot by my wood stove. The green tops are a foot long and growing! Its neat to watch. How do we know when to dig it up though?
Dh thought I was nuts planting an onion btw!

that sounds fun! do the sprouts smell like onions? i have grown pineapple tops before, that's fun too.

I just ran to smell it. Yes it does smell onioney! How do you do the pineapple?

The tops of this growing onion are a good foot long. How do I know when its ready to dig up???
