    Default my backyard pics

I've just been out back in the greenhouse potting up some seeds.  I thought you might enjoy some photos so here they are.

This first one is the gateway to my vegie patch.  When I first painted the gate, my DH nearly flipped LOL.  After 7 years, he now loves the gate.

next photo is of the vegie garden itself.  You can see that we've got six plots, one's hidden in the corner and one is planted with herbs that will be pulled out soon.  The others have black weed mat over them.  We should be ready to plant out in around 3 weeks.

next photo is the backyard taken from the back verandah, looking towards next door.  That bank of trees at the back is rainforest, there is a creek in there, about 150 metres from where I'm sitting now, that runs into the pacific ocean.

You can just see Nora Barnacle, my light sussex chicken, in the middle of the picture.  I let them free range during the day.

last photo is a hand of bananas that is growing on one of our backyard trees.  If the bats don't get them, we'll be eating them in about 6 weeks time.

you have a lovely property Rhonda. I didn't know that bats would eat bananas. I just thought they ate bugs!

I really like your fence around your veggie garden. I hope to do something similar to our new veggie plot

    Thanks everyone.

Chriss, we have fruit eating bats here. They nest in huge colonies during the day and fry around at night. They're called flying foxes because their heads are like foxes, but they have a bat's body. They're very cute and people often keep injured ones as pets. http://www.amonline.net.au/mammals/i...fly_fox_06.jpg

Oh wow, it really does look like a fox's head! Not sure I would want one as a pet though.

We have bats here in the summertime. At night you can see them (and hear them) flying around. They particularly like eating mosquitoes They are not so nice when they get into the house though.
