Default What a productive l&g day!

It was so nice to have decent weather today, and DH took today off, too, so I got a lot done.

I dug into my compost pile and got enough out to add a layer (maybe 1 inch) to the top of my lasagna bed I am starting. I also got a new compost pile started- I threw togerther a bunch of leaves, food waste, more leaves, still-green grass clippings from last year, and yet more leaves. I think it is a good base for this year's compost. I also got two leaf-mold piles started, because I have more leaves than I am going to be able to use in my compost (gotta keep a decent brown/green ratio!) That, of course, means that I got a lot of leaves raked up from under the tree line at the egde of my property.

We also started draining the pool cover. I used some of the water to wet down the garden. I figure if they are going to charge me both for the water and the sewage, I might as well save double by using waste-water where I can!

And I got a lot of good exercise doing it. Alas, we are supposed to have rain and heavy rain for the next two days, and *snow* (yuck!) on Monday. But it should be in the 50s next week!

Wow, Kimberly you sure were busy! Good for you.

Hoping we don't get all the rain they are talking about, the creek is my front yard.

Fox creek or Schoharie creek? I'm guessing in Esperence it is Fox? IThey were both pretty high earlier this week. And it looks like we are already getting that rain. So much for draining the pool!

Schoharie creek. It's still really high from the last rain. Hope it doesn't get as high as the 96 flood. We made it through that one by the skin of our teeth as it was lapping at our cellar windows. It took out part of our driveway, ruined our septic tank, carried off yard furniture and things from the garage and left behind silt, dead fish and all kinds of debris in our yard. I also watched trees & parts of houses wiz past my house. Scary time.

Yikes! Luckily, the living areas of my house are high enough above ground level that it doesn't appear that in the last 110 years ther has been any damage to them. But we do get it in our basement . It was really frightening when the sheriff came to our house one night and told us there was a good possibility of flooding and that there would be a meeting in a few days- we were decorating the nursery, and what a terrible time to be told your house might be flooded! (Pregnant and expecting soon!) This was two years ago. Everything turned out okay, but at th meeting I met a neigbor (we had only lived here 1.5 years at that point) who had her house raised because of flooding.

Luckily, we have had a survey of our property and FEMA says it is unlikely that there would be much damage to our house in the event of a flood. So we only store things we could bear to part with in the basement and just try not to wory about anything else.

It had to have been very hard for you in '96. I still lived two hours sw then....

What a wonderful feeling Kimberly to get so much done. I know you have been itching to get going on your outdoor projects. This was a great beginning!

The flooding possibilities are scary sounding. I hope you don't have any risks this year!

BTW I love your ticker for the 900 minute challenge!

Well, the flooding stayed away from our house yesterday, but now our sewage is not draining properly. We pay a pretty penny to have village sewage, and it is all backing up ino our basement now! I presume it is because of the floods, and we called the DPW, and they seem to think everything is fine, but the sewage gets out of the house only to be brought back in. Yuck. I am disgusted.

Anyway, luckily, none of the stuff I did the other day got damaged in the rains yesterday. So eveything is still good.

Well, that is the pits. Yuck. I hope an official can be at your house to see that everything is not fine! Keep bugging them!
