rhubarb - what do I do wrong?
About 7 years ago, I bought 1 stalk from Gurneys.
The darn thing won't grow!!
It has been moved to the spot where it is...about 4 years ago.
I hear of & see everyone else having rhubarb coming out of their *ears* but I have never been able to eat any!
For the past couple of years, I've had a small clump....maybe 4 or 5 stalks....but ????? Shouldn't it be HUGE by now??
what am I doing wrong??????
BTW, I can't grow bell peppers, either....chili peppers, yes, but bell, NOPE!
Could it be my soil??

I'm new to growing rhubarb this year, Jamee. I set out three plants early in the spring but only two are coming up. I recall my dad always put manure around each plant each year.
I think you are also not supposed to let the plant bloom by keeping that cut off.
But I bet there is much better expert advice available here. Good luck!!~~Jean~~

All I know is that they love to be fertilized & watered well.

I don't know, but I do know that the 10 rhubarb plants that FLOURISHED in our backyard for the last 16 years have suddenly died....hmmm...I wonder if DH had anything to do with it. He'd been wanting to grow grass over that spot for quite some time. ( The only reason I'm thinking that is that recently I've noticed DH "throwing" away some things of mine on the sly. Boy. that sounds kind of bad, doesn't it?) Hmmm. I'm really not usually paranoid.

I don't care for the stuff myself, but my sister loves it. I'll have to freeze it for her.

I guess I'll just have to be patient and make my own in a couple of years when my rhubarb and strawberries get better established.
I'm sure your sister will appreciate it tremendously!~~Jean~~
