    Talking My plants are growing!!

Can you tell I am exctied???

My plants have sprouted and have leaves on some of them. My question to all is this??

When do I transplant them? I started them in small containers and don't know when to remove them. I don't want to do it too early or too late.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you can find out your last/first frost dates, this site will help:
    http://www.chestnut-sw.com/growform.htm

Plug in your info and it will tell you week by week what to do with which seeds/plants.

I don't know the story with when to plant in TX, so maybe that will help.

Cool! You need to set them out as seedlings for a few days to let them get used to the outside sun. Then you can trasnplant them into the garden. Good Luck!

Have you looked at the library to find a book specific to gardening in TX? That's what I did for FL and the state was broken down into 3 regions with specific info for each region. Very helpful!

Also, contact your local county extension agency (they should have someone you can speak to about gardening issues) and see if they have a website with info as well.

Wow, plants already!! I'd be excited too. You must be feeling a great sense of accomplishment!

I didn't start any seeds indoors this year

Congratulations Michelle! Its so rewarding isn't it?

My tomato seedlings look like they are ready to be put into pots -- something I better get done this weekend.

    Great news Michelle!

With seedlings, generally the first leaves up are seed (cotyledon) leaves. The first true leaves - the second lot of leaves - are a good indication that things are progressing as they should be. I'm going to check to see if I can find you a site with pics. Here you go:
    http://www.reneesgarden.com/articles/grow-tomato.htm

There are no real rules for planting out, each vegetable is different. For instance, lettuce can be planted out in the garden as soon as you have about 4 healthy leaves, tomatoes, on the other hand, should be potted on into individual pots and hardened off in the sun before planting out. I think I wrote about this and posted photos of my tomatoes as I potted them on. They are still sitting in the sun waiting for more growth before I plant them in the garden.

    Good luck, Michelle.
