corn is sprouting
The corn that we planted last Wed. is sprouting
So far we saw at least 10 little sprouts about an inch or so high when we were out back while grilling this evening.

Yes, that is terrific news -- and a definite confirmation that the growing season is now underway! Congratulations!
I keep looking for signs of life from our potato patch but nothing yet. We haven't planted our corn yet -- when "the oak leaves are as big as squirrels ears" is the saying we go by.~~Jean~~

Speaking of the garden I better go uncover it. There was a chance of frost last night so Joe had me cover them and the tomato plants.
I can't believe how cool it turned the last few day's after all the nice warm sunny weather.

I am so jealous!! We won't be able to plant for another month! I've never tried to grow corn before.

It has turned back cool here as well. Had frost for the last 2 nights. I haven't even tried to put any plants out yet. I hope your corn and tomatoes grow well. Yummy

How exciting! We are planting our corn within the next week of two. The land here has dried up quite nice this spring so we'll be getting it in earlier than normal.

We tried corn for the first time last year and had such fun with our little corn patch. Some of our local farmers thought this was quite funny that we would go to all that work when we could just ask them for some. Most plant feed corn but a few also put in a few rows of sweet corn. We planted five, 20' rows and had a good and organic crop. We are still eating some that we froze.
This year we are trying a bicolor from Burpees. We wanted something sweeter than last year and need a fairly early season type for an area that borders on zones 4 and 5. DH tilled the garden area this weekend but we won't plant until somewhere around the 3rd week of May.
