    Default Today's Harvest

It is still very early in the gardening year here, but I did manage to get a nice little harvest today.

    Today I picked:
    -red leaf lettuce
    -green leaf lettuce
    -spinach
    -garlic greens
    -rhubarb
    -lemon balm
    -apple mint
    -parsley
    -rosemary

I will be using everything but the rhubarb today. The rhubarb willb e washed, choppd, and frozen for DSis. I don't care for it, but it is fun to grow and since I discovered it, it is free.

The lettuces, spinach, and some of the garlic greens will be used in a salad for dinner. I will be adding onion sprouts fom the kitchen- I got organic onion seeds for spouting from a local farm stand/store.

The rosemary and remaining garlic greens will be used for rosemary chicken. The parsley will go on mashed potatoes, maybe, or be added to the chicken.

And the lemon balm (bee balm, melissa) and apple mint were made into a nice refreshing iced tea for after I finish mowing the yard so DH doesn't have to do it when he gets home tonight.

Yay for the garden! Yay for Mother Nature!

The onion sprouts sound verrrrrry interesting Kimberly! Do they have an oniony taste (probably a dumb question)? I'd never heard of sprouting onion seed for eating -- I've done only mung beans and it was years ago.....

    Great harvest for you!

Ys, they do taste very oniony. I'd never seen them before, but they are pretty nice on salad!
