Since I can't work in the garden...
because of the rain, I thought I would post some pictures that I took earlier this week (on the one day it didn't rain!)
We take a very natural approach to gardening here. Nothing formal as we are trying to create a wild flower, country cottage, woodland effect. ( basically we are really good at growing weeds
)
This first is of wild strawberries which grow on our lawn.

This is a picture of part of my shade garden up close. In the summer time it is under the canopy of a huge tree and we move our lawn chairs there to escape the hot afternoon sun. The temperature is usually 5 degrees cooler there.

This is periwinkle under the same tree. Periwinkle grows wild here (although I planted this) The leaves stay green under the snow all winter

This last one is my front lawn. It is covered with sweet violets which also grow wild here. Most of the other front lawns in the neighbourhood are a boring green. Mine is covered with sweet violets and another purple flower (probably a weed) until mid-June.

We have two very large and very old apple trees in our backyard. The apple blossoms are in full bloom. I wish I could share the scent of the blossoms with you! Intoxicating

Beautiful, lush, and so relaxing! Yes, I'll join you all in one of those lawn chairs too.
I really appreciate your approach to gardening -- let the wild be wild and go for the country cottagey look. I'm also one that lets the little things grow where they want, including the violets -- sometimes those wild things are just as pretty or prettier than a cultivated plant. Right now I'm trying to divest myself of too many purple coneflower plants --- they just multiply too readily and have taken over some of my flower beds. So I've planted some in the wilder parts of my yard hoping they will like that spot. And I've given some away to a group that my husband is part of that is responsible for the revitalization of a park with a lake in it outside of our town.~~Jean~~
