Tell me how your garden grows...
I'm a gardening junky, and I need garden news!
My beans are coming up quite nicely now, and I saw about 5 corn seedlings yesterday while I was out there. I planted some butternut squash seedlings and some watermelon seeds yesterday, too. I am getting ready (finally!) to transplant some of my last indoor seedling- the rosemary looks like it finally might be big enough, and also the coleus and lavender. Also the statice, but I don't really have a place for it (or the coleus, for that matter.) I have moon flower and morning glories to go in, too. (I know, most of you think they are weeds- I do have wild morning glory that makes me crazy, but it is pretty, anyway, so I only pull down the stuff that is dangerous to the house.)
And why can't I grow lettuce from seed outdoors? I can grow things that are hard to grow, but I can't grow lettuce unless I start it indoors. It is crazy. Actually, none of my herbs that I started outdoors have sprouted, either. Good thing I started most things inside as well.
So, what is going on in your garden?

Well, not sure what the problem was (the late snow's and frosts after 70-80 degree weather in late March early April or the fact that no one whose rented here had done anything with the garden spot in years, but everything tends to have taken a halt in the growing process....lol
Yesterday we went thru the whole area with the garden claw and loosened up the soil and added some to it. We are going to replant a few items later this weekend or the first of the week when Joe is off again.
We bought more melon seeds and are going to get some more tomato plants in the ground to go along with the 2 we bought before the snowstorm. I am so ready for a homegrown tomato sandwich.
As for the corn it is about 12"-15" high right now.

My tomatoes are growing well and the basil plants in with them are going nuts. I told DS to take some to his restaurant to use. I've eaten a hand-full of strawberries - they are the best I've ever grown. The potatoes are about 2'above the grown and I have to get out there and throw some mulch on them very soon. The parsley is doing really well, I picked a handful the other night for dinner. We've had one meal from the zuchinnis and the ruby chard is growing nicely. I'll have to thin out the carrots soon, I hope some of them are big enough for a baby carrot meal. The only thing I'm disappointed in are the beans. We planted them when it was raining and they don't like a lot of water when they are planted. I think they might have a viral disease and we'll probably pull them out and start again in a new spot. I'm also going to plant some pea seeds directly into the garden when I get some time.
I picked about 6 lemons during the week and I hope DH transplants some banana suckers and the orange tree today so they're closer to the water tank.

Our garden is progressing slowly. I have learned that you must be patient because it doesn't happen overnight.
We have 7 baby cucumbers growing. I can't wait until I can pick them. I love cucumbers! The squash and the canteloupe have blooms, but no fruit yet. The canteloupe vines are running everywhere. Nothing else has blooms, but I am waiting patiently.
Our corn is about 24" tall.~*Michelle*~

My little tomato plants look nice as do the squash, peppers and cucumbers I replanted. I am still waiting to see if the zucchini, watermelon and sunflower seeds come up. My carrots are doing well too.
I have to replant my gardenia - now that I know they are hardy and can go in the ground. I can't figure out where to plant it!

We had a bit of a late start getting the garden going. In is the romaine we started from seed and the green beans. let me go look & see if they sprouted...I see a sprout& the soil is starting to crack, here come the beans.
Everything else (broccoli, tomatoes, basil, parsley & squash) is in the cold frame.
Kimberly, I've had excellent results from growing the mesclun mix of lettuce in whiskey barrels. Had our first harvest of lettuce 2 nights ago from some that reseeded itself & popped up in the spring as a nice surprise.~*Darlene*~

Darlene, I'm coming over to your house for lettuce!
I actually have two different kinds of lettuce growing (maybe Red sails? that I purchased from Seebold's, and some oher kind I can't remember right now) but they were transplants into the garden. I started the green leaf in the house under the row light.
Sounds like most of our gardens are doing pretty well, with a few fits and starts. I am jealous about all the nice high corn and potatoes. My corn is maybe an inch high, and my potatoes (the ones that have plants already) are less than 2 inches. But my peas are growing like gangbusters, and most of my plants are doing well. I forgot to mention that I put in some more peppers yesterday that I started indoors. I actually put them where the lettuce ISN't growing. Couldn't see wasting the space anymore- it has been at least two weeks since I put the seeds in- probably closer to three or four, and nothing has happened, so I figure nothing is going to. I am growing lots of weeds, though! They are so easy to pull out in the square foot layout.
Thanks for the updates, everyone.
