What is your favourite thing to do on your homestead?
As far as activites go mine would be gardening in the summer with the fresh produce as it's reward and quilting/sewing in the winter.
Sitting outside under our maple trees sipping a nice cool drink with the breeze blowing ranks right up there.....after a hard day's work. In the winter it would be staying at home cooking a hearty meal (using our food from the garden) for the family and us all together watching a great movie or chatting in the livingroom.
How about you?

Summer it would have to be gardening and then preserving the harvest. I love canning even though its time consuming and can be hours on end.
In the winter it would be quilting without a doubt. I quilt all year although I do so much more in the winter.

My favourite thing to do right now is to wander around the property with the six year old that I child mind telling her the names of all the herbs, flowers, trees etc that are growing. We also like to check out bugs and watch the birds.
In the winter time it is building snowmen and having snowball fights with my dh.

Heather, mine are similar to yours. Gardening isdefinitely a passion of mine in the spring/summer/fall.
In the winter, I enjoy baking- no big surprise there. I also like to make holiday gifts for people, and I am a nut for holiday decorating.

My favourite things are gardening, this is a year-long obsession, and baking. I also love it when people visit and we sit out on the front verandah and talk.

Hmmmm..... well definitely gardening in the summer. In the fall we sometimes are able to pick up persimmons and have enough for some persimmon bread. In the winter, I love just cozying up to watch a movie and enjoying the heat from our woodstove. I also love cooking/baking in the winter -- but not when it is hot. And Kimberly, I'm a nut for holiday decorating too!
I wish our place was more hospitable for nature walks, but not until we are able to mow some paths through our woods. I do love to walk the woods and identify the things I am able to name.
Oh, one other past time I enjoy at our place is digging in our old dumps. There are 3 dumps of varying ages, the oldest is closest to the house, thankfully. These are dumps made by previous owners of our old farm where they dumped their "trash" --- before landfills and trash pick up. I've found lots of great stuff for planters (old chamber pots and a coal bucket to name a couple), the head to a china doll (bisque porcelain really), a rug beater, old bottles and jars, etc. etc. etc. This is something I do when it is still cold enough to keep the snakes in hibernation and the poison ivy dormant.~~Jean~~

I just love seeing everything change from season to season. I also enjoy fixing our place up and seeing the little changes. We have bushhogged, cleared, planted grass, etc. We are now sandblasting the old brown paint off our house (log siding painted dark brown by previous owners) and restaining the cedar logs to a natural color. Very pretty!! We are also getting ready to put a new roof on. My husband and I both love living in the country and we are both homesteaders at heart!

My favorite thing right now is also gardening. I sure do like to do it once the girls have gone to sleep and I can have peace of mind and quiet time.
I also love to go for walks along the whole property. It's nice in the summertime to have the chance to get out of the house as much as possible.

Jean what a great treasure trove those dumps must be. I'd absolutely love to look through them.

I'm with the majority. It' gardening and then canning and freezing the fruits of my labor. Today I put up six more quarts of cucumber pickels and a couple of days ago I canned 3 pints of tomatoes. I'll can some more if I get too many tomatoes. I have another batch of pickels that I'll do. I can't do much more canning because I'm running out jars.
Oh, I also love doing my quilting, crafts and sewing. I also love trying out recipes I find on recipezaar.com
