Holy Moley...
Weve got moles in our yard....well not actually in our yard, but they are moving closer to it coming from our neighbors yard....Id rather not kill them, but we dont want our yard looking awful and you know how awful all those mounds of dirt look, not to mention they will eat what flowers and shrubs we have out....anyone know how to get rid of them without spending a ton of money on store bought poisons????

maybe a spray soluion ( few drops of tobasco sauce in water), spray on base of plants? or how about red pepper flakes mixed into the ground around the plants?

Wendy, in Texas I think you should be able to use nematodes. Moles do not eat plants or bulbs (voles do-) they eat grubs and the like. If you apply nematodes to your lawn, they will kill the grubs and the moles will not have anything to eat, so they will leave. We are looking into this option right now, but it may not work here because of our shorter warm season.
Here's a little FYI, too- moles are pretty solitary creatures, but do a ton of damage. So, what looks like the damage of a bunch of moles may really only be one or two little critters. Also, I've read that moles will only move into "healthy" yards (I think this must be in organic terms, because I can't imagine anyone else thinking a yard full of grubs is healthy) so feel good that you have a "healthy" yard! I'm trying to concentrate on that!

Or you could just get yourself a couple pet skunks. LOL They like to eat moles/voles/mice.

Kimberly, another right on post. They really can do alot of damage & undermine areas of your yard with all their tunneling... you can literally walk across your lawn & sink in in spots. Hope you can get rid of them soon.

You know, I don't actually know where you buy nematodes. I think you have to mail-order them, usually. That is what I was planning on doing once I look into it more.

Sorry- I forgot to mention where I am ordering mine from- I meant to do it yesterday before I ran off to work.

I have a $20 off coupon for them, and they are pretty much all organic, so I will patronize them.
