Down on the Homestead - June 12 - 19th
Good morning everyone. Its sunny here today which is so nice. For the past 2 days we haven't had rain although we still have water in our basement. The water table is so high. HOpefully we won't get anymore rain for a couple days.
Today were off to the city after lunch.
Otherwise there isn't much on the agenda until later tonight when I go over to the post office to clean.
Its going to be a busy week trying to get dd's quilt done. I don't think I will although I will be close.
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Good morning!
Good luck with the quilt CJ.
Going to be another hot day here. We didn't finish cleaning the sheds yet, so we will be back at it today. I can't believe how much junk we have accumulated. I have a huge toss pile already.
The boys want to go swimming. We will wait to see if we can finish cleaning first.
Have a great day!~*Michelle*~

good morning ladies.
I think I'm finally over my cold. The actual cold lasted only a few days but it triggered off my asthma. But now I'm all good! YAY!!
We are all busy getting Kerry ready for his trip. He left work yesterday and they had drinks and a party for him. I think he'll have problems leaving his gf, they've grown close over the past few months. We're all going out for dinner together next Friday night.
My DIL is coming over today to pick up some sewing and see what I've been doing. Kerry is packing up his room - CDs, DVDs, old clothes etc. and then listing computer games on ebay. I have some gardening to do and I'll clean out the chicken coop before sewing most of the afternoon.
As of June 24 DH and I will be empty nesters. I think I have to workshop that while I sit and sew on the front verandah today.
I hope everyone is well and smiling.

I thought I would join you this week.
My family and I just got back from vacation late Friday afternoon and I still haven't had a chance to get rested up LOL, I need a vacation from my vacation. DH and I took our two DD's 26 and 23 with us. We stayed one night in Nashville since youngest DD had to be there early Tues. morning to take a test for a potential job. Then we went on to Pigeon Forge for a few days, where we did some shopping (we love the Apple Barn) but mostly played around in the mountains, Roaring Forks, Cades Cove, Metcalf Bottom's and Greenbrier School, Clingman's Dome, Laurel Falls (well actually the last two I stayed in the car with a book and took naps LOL since I'm still in the recovery process from surgery early this year). Then we went to Chattanooga on Thursday to the TN Aquarium for both the River and Ocean Journey's. Friday morning we went to Lookout Mountain and really enjoyed Rock City Gardens then we went to see Ruby Falls before heading home.
I've been working hard all weekend trying to get some things done that I won't have time for this week since I have to take my Dad to Dr. appointments both Monday and Tuesday and run errands for him. He lives about 35 minutes away so it really eats up a lot of time (and energy).
I have the laundry caught up and I've been working on getting the bills done. I'll have to wait to transfer money to the checking account before I can send them out since I don't know how much our hay baling bill will be.
Have a great week all!Deb

Good morning all!!
Today is cloudy, but very warm & humid!
I don't have much on my to do list today. It is the last full day I have no kids or errands. So, I made sure I had a light day so I can relax all afternoon!! DS has a baseball game tonight. It's the start of the playoffs.
I need to do:
2 loads of laundry **one outside
wash shower curtain & bath rugs **in washer
clip coupons
change my plugins
Breakfast was oatmeal, muffins & mandarin oranges
Dinner will sliced beef on bread w/gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans & fruit cobbler
I have a meeting at the hospital for Ryan tomorrow morning. A unit nurse told dh yesterday that they have him scheduled to come home tomorrow. The social worker I talked to on Friday neglected to tell me this. I hope it's not true. I don't think the other kids nor am I ready for him to come home yet. Not after that last episode!! He was such a danger to himself & the other kids! The kids have bruises & cuts from him!!!! I guess we'll see!
Well, I'm gonna go get my work done so I can "play" and relax!
I hope you all have a great day!

Dawn
I don't understand why they keep sending him home when he really needs help and is a danger to others. Are they waiting for something more serious to happen? My heart goes out to you.
This week is going to pretty much be a quilting week. Not that I mind although I have so much to get done. I've been slowly getting rid of the million and one weeds in the garden now that it stopped raining. The corn didn't come up nor the cucumbers, so I'm going to have dh till that area so I don't have so much weeding to do. Everything else looks pretty good considering all the rain.
I was up until 2 this morning reading. I couldn't sleep so rather than keep dh awake, I got up and read. Its another book on pioneering and homesteading. I'll post a thread about it later. I did finished reading Clara and Me by Deanna Kawatski. What an excellant book. I would recommend it to anyone. Its more of her homesteading story and a story about what friendship really is. Clara is mentally challenged and yet wise beyond her years.
Tonight its over to clean the post office. The inspector comes tomorrow to check over everything, so dd and I worked hard last night making sure everything was spic and span. Tonight will do the finishing touches.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good morning!
Dawn, I agree with CJ. Do they really think he is ready to come home?
It is very cloudy today, but they didn't say there was any chance for rain. I will take the clouds though after the heat we have been having.
We did finish decluttering and cleaning out the sheds yesterday. It looks so much better!! We tossed so much junk that we could just use one shed instead of two if we wanted too, but one shed is for the go-kart, lawn mower, and bikes. The other is for tools, christmas decor, etc. I like being able to walk around inside their without tripping over anything. We just have to haul everything off to the right locations.
I have to take all 3 boys in to the doctor today for a six month's check-up. Chris needs a physical for atheletics. We will take care of that today also.
While in town we will run a few errands. We need to take movies back to the library. Dakota also needs to turn in his reading log and get a new one for this week. I also plan on stopping by CVS and getting some of the deals I spotted. I have $5 in CVS bucks that I will use too, making the deals even better!
I hope you all have a great day.~*Michelle*~

CJ & Michelle,
I have no idea why they keep sending him home so soon. The first time around, ok, let's see how he does on these meds. But this time!! No way!!! He hasn't even been there for 7 days yet!
I'm just praying that the unit nurse had false info!!! Not that we don't want him home, but we certainly don't want to take any more chances!!!
I was told that if he has another bad episode at home like that last one to call the police first. If the police are involved, the hospital will have to take it more seriously. I do not know if that is true or not, but maybe I will give it a try!
Thanks for the prayers!!!!

Dawn, thinking of you and saying prayers!
Afternoon Homesteaders,
I have not been very good at posting lately and barely have time to come and read posts.! I thought summer was going to be quiet and relaxing but I am now going to be doing some teaching over the summer and covering for vacations at the wool store. Also, Andrea has gotten herself a summer job which requires me to drive her to and from work.
We have had 6 straight days of high heat, humidity and smog. It rained all day here. Tomorrow the heat wave is supposed to break and the temperature will only be 20 C. Phew!!
Having nachos and salad for supper. Then it's Canadian Idol and knitting time.
Have a great evening all.

Hello to all!

Dawn, you and your family are in my prayers. Is there another hospital that will take him? Maybe he needs a different type of treatment.
Chriss, try to stay cool in the heat.
The weather has been hot today. We haven't done much besides the normal household routine. I finished reading Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace today. I really liked the book. I also have Financial Peace Planner by Dave Ramsey that I am going to start on now. I guess it is a sequel to the other book.
I hope you all have a great day.

Hi all!
Chriss, I hear you.....it's been SO hot...BUT there is relief, right now it is pouring buckets and cooling right down....hope the cooler weather gets to you.
Was up with the birds this morning at 4:30 a.m. I took Kody to London to have a CAT scan done on his arm again. The specialist says that he hasn't seen this in someone so young...ugh...Kody can't turn his wrist (it's basically stuck) This all stems from him breaking his arm 2 and a half years ago. He will speak with other dr.'s on Thursday and get back to us as far as a plan.
We just got back from dd's soccer practice, they called it off as the wind got up and dark clouds hovered. It is 7:20 here right now and it looks like midnight, it's black!
Early bed tonight. I do want to make a quick batch of stove top cookies for lunches tomorrow.
Have a great night ladies!

Everyone looks like they are busy.
I've been so tired lately and haven't been up to getting a whole lot done. Wouldn't you know it thats when I get company. It didn't matter though because it was like I had known them all my life. We had a wonderful visit and I'm so glad they stopped by. Although I did wash my hair this morning just in case it happens again.
Its raining here again and were still bailing water out of our basement. The only good thing is so is everyone else in our small town. Makes me feel a bit better in that I'm not alone in this daunting task. The sump pump is working although every now and then the float gets stuck. Dh put in a new pail tonight so hopefully this will work better.
I did get bread and peanut butter cookies baked today. Its not warm here at all so I've been able to keep baking and not heat up the house. Its been cool enough we still haven't installed our a/c.
Dd and I just got back from the post office. Now I'm off to do a bit of reading and going to bed early.
Have a nice evening everyone.

Heather, I hope they are able to repair the damage done to Kody's arm.
CJ, I hope the new pail helps the sump pump. I am sure this is a pain.

Hi Everyone!
I have missed it here so much! On Friday I overdid it at the gym and found myself on crutches from Sunday and Monday. OUCH! I am better now, just bad, bad muscle strain in my calves. BOTH of them. I couldn't walk at all! I went to the doctor's on Monday and all was well except the swelling, so I am now pretty much back to normal and walking. Thank God! DH had to take care of me and everything else going on! It was pretty terrible, but I decided that I cannot push myself SO hard. I didn't realize what I had done until it was too late.
It had been so hot and humid all weekend as well. We managed to go out with friends (as miserable as I was) for DH's birthday on Saturday. He had a good time though.
Tonight we are going to look at some land in southern VT. About an hour and a half from here. We love the town that it's in and I hope it will be something that we want. If any of you have any extra good thoughts kicking around, we could use a few!
We are also thinking of renting another place (a house) so that way we can look some more or buy the land (if it's what we want). The house we are interested in we are taking a look at on Saturday. I will give more details when we take a look. It does look like a prime spot for a garden as well!
DH has been working so hard getting connections, all the legal paperwork, etc. for his business. His first goal is to see how he does until August (when he takes his Journeyman's plumbers license) and will go from there. I think it's wise to make small goal and assess them as they come.
Dawn- I hope your DS is able to stay at the hospital. I keep saying prayers that there is something they can do for him!
Michelle- I hope your DS's lip is doing better! Yikes!
Chriss- It has been so incredibly hot here too! It finally rained last night and the weather broke!
Heather- I love your new fabric!
Rhonda- I wish your son the best. I'm sorry he' leaving home.
CJ- I can't wait to see your DD's quilt!
Kim- I hope you are doing well!
Welcome Deb!
Hello to everyone I missed. I hope you are all having a good day!
