Talking I picked a strawberry today!!!

I thought I had pinched off all my strawberry blooms (everbearing, I'm trying to give the littl guys a chance to get established), but the other day I noticed two berries in the patch. I took a look at one yesterday, and it was as white as white could be. Went out a few minutes ago, and i was red-red-red. I decided I would call DD over and let her see it on the plant, then give it to her. She loves strawberries. So I showed her, and we picked it. She is still carrying it around. I wish she would eat it!

I have been picking peas off the vines for a few days now, too. I love them- they are so tasty!!!

    How is your harvest?

I only have strawberry plants this year (no garden - we may be moving). My hanging strawberry plant is a dud
But the plants I planted last year are bearing fruit. Not so good though. They are big, probably a little smaller than grocery store ones, but they taste bland, like nothing

YankeeMom, you should try Alpine strawberries somtime. You can buy the plants, and you can somtimes even find the seeds. I started some from seed this year and hopefully by next year they will be big enough to plant out in the garden.

Alipines are quite small, but they are VERY tasty- more like real wild strawberries than domestic ones. They are bigger than wild strawberries, but they are still quite small in comparison with most store-bought. But who cares- they taste SO good!

Yummy, fresh strawberries are like kisses from God . We did not put in our own garden this year but my inlaws live right behind us and they have 2 large gardens that we are blessed to be able to pick from. We have had delicious onions and potatoes lately. There are watermelons that just about ready to pick, they are huge and looking delicious. We will be enjoying them on the fourth of July.

We have organic strawberries growing too. They are much tastier than store bought ones and the equal of the organic strawberries I bought when I first came to live in this area. I bought plants from that man and the strawberries are still as good.

I agree with Kimber, Yankeemom, you need to get a strawberry you know to be great tasting. If you can't find the alpines, try to find an organic grower who will sell you some runners. They are worth it.
