Thumbs up Down on the Homestead - July 3 - 9th

Good morning everyone. Last week was a very long week. I'm hoping for some nice weather this week, warmer temps and being able to get outside and do some yard work.

Today we need to make a quick trip into the city. I'll pick up a few groceries while I'm there (sale items). We might even go to the Dairy Queen as a treat.

I plan on getting some quilting done later this afternoon and doing some straigtening out in my sewing room.

Tonight its over to the post office to clean and then home to watch a movie with the family.

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday.

Just thought I'd post quickly before bed.

CJ, I'm sorry you had some bad news. I pray everything will be ok.

Well, we had a quiet weekend resting. Dh was not feeling well so I turned the phones off for two days.

Thursday dh did get his leave without pay request and we're very thankful. I cannot understand his boss though. Dh went in to the Human Resources area and his boss was walking out and the boss was not even going to say anything. Dh said hello so then his boss said hello and walked on by. Geeee, dh has not being in for two months, why didn't his boss even ask how are doing?

This weekend I've been catching up on some housework and baking. Other than that I've tried to rest. This week we need to put today dh's case for the disablity company. Who knows what else will get done. I'm praying for a better week.

    Good nite!

Good morning everyone. The weather has been horrible here. It continues to rain, there have been a couple of tornadoes (not in our area) although we've had a number of warnings for our area. Water is everywhere.

Not sure whats up today. I think dh is working although I haven't heard yet. He isn't back yet so I'm sure he is.

    I'll probably do:

A load of laundry and hang it inside
    Do some decluttering
Work on some crafts (getting started for craft sales)
    Do some quilting
    Clean the post office later

Hope everyone has a great day.

    Tina, thinking of you often.

We are still getting tons of rain as well. We thought we had a reprieve last evening, spent 3 minutes on the beach, and suddenly out of nowhere an enormous downpour started. Parts of our property are flooded again, our pond has overflowed, and our pond dock is underwater.

Ds and I have just hung out in the a/c today. Today is a holiday at dh's work, but not a paid one. To not have it affect his paycheck so badly, dh worked today. I've been working on homeschooling lessons for this upcoming year (done a little in science, health, and history). I found some quilting material at the thrift store on Sat. (3 yds. for a total of 75ยข!) and need to get it out of the washer and into the dryer for a quick spin. Nothing else special is planned for today. We're avoiding the crowds, but I'm sure there will be plenty of fireworks all around our house. Ugh!

    Good morning!

Still no rain here and it is needed so badly. DH was very busy this weekend responding to grass fires in our's and the surrounding communities. It is going to be another scorcher today!

We had a really busy weekend. I am glad it was a long one for DH. We finally pulled up the rest of the carpet in the house (the hall, livingroom, and dining room). There is no more carpet in the hosue and I am so glad. I can't believe the dirt that accumulated under carpet. I am sure that wasn't helping with DS#3's or my asthma. Hopefully now that it is gone, we will be able to breathe better.

The floor is ready for whatever we have planned. I finished priming it and getting it ready for the new flooring. I am thinking it will be laminate hardwood floors. It may take me a few months to finish it, but it will get done. I will buy so much each pay period and eventually will have it all.

We also put up a new light fixture in the kitchen, changed the light swith, and put on a face plate on one outlet that didn't have a cover. DH also put up a new ceiling fan in DS#1's room. I repainted the front door. A few weeks ago I removed the old paint because it was peeling. So this weekend I finally repainted it. I think we had more projects going on than I wanted. DH was planning on fixing the boy's toliet. It keeps running, but I think he forgot. We bought what we needed, so I may try to do it today myself.

I want to repaint the walls in the LR, DR, and hall before I put the flooring in so I may run today and pick up some paint and start on that. I almost have this house the way I want it.

I hope you all have a great day!

Ds and I returned some things to the library this morning and ran by the health food store while we were out. It's so hot here and I'm glad to be home in the a/c. I need to work on his homeschool curriculum a bit more today and I found a huge stack of old paperwork yesterday that can be shredded so I'll tackle some of that, too.

Dh and I watched Hotel Rwanda last night. I've been wanting to see it for a while. It was very emotional to watch though.

Wow its been quiet here the past couple weeks. Where are all the homesteaders?

I'm really busy today. First I got one load of laundry washed and hung outside to dry. The second load is in the washer.

I also weeded the Swiss chard and plan on getting out there after lunch (if its not too hot) to weed the beans. With all the rain we've had, the weeds aren't too bad right now so I want to get them pulled while the ground is still soft and a bit wet. Dh had tilled between the rows before we got all the rain. That sure helped. We should be eating Swiss chard within the next couple days and I'll be freezing some has well.

This afternoon I'm working on organizing my quilting patterns that I have laying around in my sewing room. I want to put them into file folders. I'll probably also organize my sewing patterns while I'm at it. I'm hoping to get a couple more blocks finished for dd's quilt. (Thats my quilting challenge for July.)

Tonight I'll clean the post office. Dh will mow both the lawn at the post office and our lawn.

    Have a great Tues. everyone.

    I'm here, CJ! Wooohooo!!

    Good morning everyone.

It's getting very close to the quilting exhibition where DIL Cathy and I will unveil all our stitcheries for the general public. LOL! I've been working on them every chance I get, today I'll draw a design for the aprons Cathy and I will wear at the exhibition. I'll start stitching them at the store on Friday. I'm also making a linen doll that I want to test out at the exhibition too. I've been told the face will be the hardest part, so that will be interesting to see.

Also on my agenda today I have to make bread and a few extra loaves of dough for the freezer, I'll also do some laundry and a quick tidy of my craft room. Later this afternoon I'll write a long email to Kerry.

CJ, I wish my beans had survived the rain. I lost all of mine. Are you growing any ruby chard this year? Both the swiss and ruby are great vegies for the home garden. I hope you harvest a lot of it.

Kim, I hope your surviving in the heat. I think of you every day and hope that you are in your air conditioned home and not racing around in the heat.

Michelle, wow! It sounds like you're really giving that house the once over. I get asthma too and it made a big difference when we got rid of most of our carpets. Isn't it great to make a house into what you want and feel comfy with. I bet it looks great when you finish.

Tina, I hope all is ok at your place.

    Enjoy today.

    Hello Everyone!

CJ- I am glad the rain has stopped! I hope some more of your vegetable plants are salvaged.

Chriss- it's so nice to see you!

Kim- I'm sorry your yard and pond are flooding again!

Michelle- The home improvement projects sound great! We hate carpet too! I hope your asthma improves now.

Rhonda- I am excited for you with your upcoming show and new designs! I would love to see them!

Tina- I am glad to hear your DH will get his pay without work, but I am sad that his boss didn't treat him with more respect when he saw him in person!

We had a nice weekend. It's raining today. We needed it, but it looks like it's starting to clear up again. I hope we get a bit more because we could use it.

My lettuce is almost ready to be picked. The strawberry plants are doing good, but no more strawberries yet. My tomato plants are still a little puny. Maybe a tomoato by August (?).

I am trying to schedule a visit to my parents in GA. I will know more details tomorrow. I pray that I can see them as I haven't seen anyone from my side of the family in two and a half years! My parents haven't visited me in VT in over six years! This is getting a bit rediculous! Please say a prayer or send a special thought that I can go. Right now it seems too good to be true so I don't want to put much empasis on going when I don't have all the details worked out yet. I should know more in the next couple of days and I will tell you all the details if it works! Cross your fingers!!! Thanks!

I hope you all have a good day!

Michele, praying you get to visit your parents. I know how difficult it is not seeing family. I only get to see my mom about every 3 years.

    Rhonda, very pretty.

    Good Morning All!

Rhonda- I LOVE your designs!! They are so nice!!! Thank you for posting pictures!

Thank you so much for the well wishes! I am going to see my parents, grandparents, my brother, SIL and my niece, two Aunts and all my cousins, from August 6 throught the 13th! It is a complete surprise to everyone that I'm coming (except my Aunt and cousins that I'm going with)! I am very happy EXCEPT...

**Warning: Rant ahead...feel free to skip...

DH is hurt that I didn't ask him to go. He never wants to go see my family, so I am not understanding this. He said he just wanted the option, so he's miffed about it. I am sure he will get over it eventually, but it doesn't help that the tickets are already purchased, I can tell you that! He really doesn't want to go. Also he is wondering why I'm driving to NY to fly out with my Aunt when the Burlington Airport is right next to our apartment...Well, because tickets are cheaper by $184! Plus we have a deisel car, so I can drive round trip to my Aunt's house and back on one tank of fuel for $35. DH's a bit worried about the car, etc. Oh, listen to me go. I'm sorry, just a bit annoyed. But he is very happy for me that I am seeing my family. Okay...are you happy or not? Well I don't leave for another month, so hopefully he will feel better. I knew it was too good to be true to run so smoothly.

Anyway I just had to get that off my chest. It was really bothering me.

I hope to come back later today to post again. have a good Morning!

    Good morning homesteaders.

I'll be busy with ironing and sewlng today. I'm also baking bread. Nothing too severe, I think I'll survive.

I got an email from my good friend Kathleen yesterday. She's coming down for a visit next week!! YAY! I love her being here. She likes working in our store so no doubt we'll spend a couple of days there during her stay. I'll take up my sewing and will sit in the sun on the verandah while she serves the customers. She'll love it.

Michele, I hope your DH gets over his hissy fit about not being asked. Men! They like to make things difficult sometimes. I'm so pleased you're going to see your family. I hope you two can work it out so you don't feel guitly about going there.

I hope everyone enjoys their day.
