Default My garden after a week away.

Just got back from vacation very early this morning. We had asked a friend to stop by and check on the pool and the garden- all he had to do was make sure each had enough water. Not sure if he did this or not, because I think it has probably rained a lot over the last week, but they both seem to have enough.

My green beans have grown SO VERY MUCH over the last week. When we left, they were only a few feet tall. Now they go all the way to the top of the 7' trellis I built and snake across the top. The tomatoes have set fruit, there are plenty of peas (no, I take that back- there are NEVER enough peas) and everything has grown so tall.

Even my nice little watermelon plants had grown up quite a bit. I pointed them out to my husband this evening and said how much they had grown, and that they might not be ready in time, but it would be close.

Then DH got out the lawnmower to mow between the boxes and plots. No big deal, as he does this every week or so. Thirty seconds later, I look over and he has MOWED DOWN MY WATERMELONS. Yes, the ones I had JUST shown him.

I think his brain is still on vacation. They will probably grow back, but there is no way they will be ripe in time to eat now.

Kimber, your DH and mine share a gene. My DH mowed down 7 clematis that I put in - not all at the same time. I gave up because I thought if I planted one more, I'd have to divorce him.

Oh yes, they definitely do. I just can't get over the fact that I had JUST shown him the plants!
Sorry about your clematis. Mine are growing out of contol, but they are where he really can't get at them with the lawn mower.

    I'd be wringing his neck.
