Default the 6 month self sufficency experiment

DH told me there would be a story on TV last night that I'd like.  I tuned in to watch a couple, coincidently living about 50 kilometres from here, who decided to see if they could live off their land for six months.

In Australia it's not at all common to see other people living a simple, frugal life.  Homeschooling is almost unknown here and you have to fight the government to allow you to do it.  (They even put in a link for the perils of home tutoring in this text version of the story, home tutoring being completely different to home schooling.)

People just don't get it here.  So it was very interesting to see this story on mainstream TV in primetime.

The husband still worked, he rode a bike to work, and he said the only thing he missed was sometimes when his mates were having a meat pie at lunchtime, he missed being able to have one too.  lol  The wife started off with high blood pressure but she said it was now normal and she felt that was because she's eaten no preservatives and nasty food and she's been very active, producing the food.

They had a goat which provided milk.  She made cheese from the milk and she bartered eggs for flour and rice.

Their son, who had been in daycare a lot of the time when both of them worked, looked like a happy and healthy little boy.

Their experiment is over now but they've decided to live that way permanently.
