Garden being munched
Our sweet potatoes are being munched on --- either deer or a groundhog I'm guessing. My husband has been away for 2 weeks and I'm hoping the poor plants can hang on until he gets home Friday and can put up a fence. I had the kids comb the dog and cats well, and then I put the hair where I thought the critter might be going into the garden hoping it will scare them off. We'll see!
Probably I could mix up a wicked hot pepper spray as well.
Does tying up little aluminum pans scare off anything besides birds? I also thought about a scarecrow, but haven't done that yet.
Any clever suggestions to help?~~Jean~~

I actually haven't done anythin since the night my plants were munched, and they haven't been touched again. I know I am a fool to leave it alone, but I have been too busy to put up chicken wire cages.
I would try the hot pepper spray for now; if it is deer, then fence would need to be really high (12 feet) so you maywant to consider making chicken-wire cages like suggested in Square Foot Gardening.
Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions Kimberly. I'll give the pepper spray a try I think. And I'll hope it keeps things at bay until DH gets home and can build a fence (or cage).
I hope your own garden escapes any further attention from the Wildlife!~~Jean~~

Last place we had garden we had a terrible problem with rabbits. Nothing worked -- hair, the spray you get at the garden center, blood meal, tin cans, soapy water -- you name it we tried it. We even went out and bought a bunch of pinwheels and "planted" them in the garden.
Finally we discovered the problem. When looking under the hedge that bordered our garden we found the rabbits hole. We had planted a big ole bunny buffet right at their front door. If I had to go through an all you can eat buffet to get out of my house you bet I'd eat. We decided to leave a few things out for the bunnies and covered everything else with chicken wire.
You might look and see if you have a location problem. Good luck.
