Heat and drought test
The recent extreme heat and lack of rain (at least in my area) has really put the mulching we put in our garden earlier in the year to the test. Even with the thick mulch (as well as newspapers underneath) I've had to water at least every other day. How are the rest of your gardens faring in these extremes?

Not too good hear. It is taking it's toll on our garden. I have already pulled up some of it due to the heat.

Thankfully, we got some rain last night and much cooler temps today. I hope everyone else gets a little bit of relief from this cold front.

currently I'm not in need of a drought test, in fact I think I can see some of my plants swimming off down the hill.

I read an article in the newspaper recently about a lady who is saving all of her washing machine water and using it to water her plants. She lives in a community that has asked people to cut back on their lawn and garden watering and this is how she is coping. She says it is working well. She has the washer drain into a laundry tub and then takes it in 5 gallon buckets to her plants. I remember something about 45 gallons of water --- and surely that is not what she gets per load of wash --- maybe that is what she gets in a week. I would LOVE to do something like this!
We have meant to rig up rain barrels to collect the rain from our barn and garage --- just haven't done it yet. One of those many projects that has been put off and put off.....SOMEDAY~~Jean~~
