Down on the Homestead August 28th-September 3rd
Can that be right? This week begins September? Where or where has the summer gone? It's unfathomable that it's over already!
Today Patrick and I read books and played while Julia and Rob went to church. Then, we all went to my father-in-laws for weekly bagels. We all get together there each Sunday from about 10:15-12:30 to eat bagels and generally hang out with each other. All 4 of his kids and their spouses and all 12 (gulp) of his granchildren. It's really nice family time. We take turns buying bagels each week. We sorta stopped for the summer, but are now starting again that the fall is here.
Rob brought the kids home and fed them lunch and put Patrick down for his nap while I ran to Staples for my free Teacher Appreciation tote bag that was full of nice free goodies (highlighter, pens, pencil box, legal size notepad, plastic folder, etc.).
I came home, started some laundry and am just kinda hanging out with the kids while Rob naps before his hockey game.
Dinner tonight will probably be Spaghettios for the kids from the pantry and I'll have salad or something from the fridge. Rob will make something for himself when he gets home from hockey. My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

September already! Drat, Thursday will be the first day of Spring.
Good morning Amy and all the ladies who follow.
Amy, I like the idea of that tote bag. Is it given out by a store?
Another busy day for me today. I'll be baking bread, doing more laundry, a tiny bit of gardening, drawing, writing and vacuuming the floors. Later today I also have to divvy up the money DIL Cathy and I have made selling patterns at our store. I have the money in several brown paper bags at the moment and if I don't do someting with it, I know it will be lost. I'll also wrap a wedding gift for her sister who is getting married in a couple of weeks time.
We were invited but can't go as it's way up north.
I planted out my garden yesterday and it looks really good. I just have to put mulch on it today. DS Shane came over for dinner last night. It was a nice surprise.
I hope it's a good week for everyone.

Rhonda, Yes, once a year, Staples (office supply store) has a teacher appreciation day where they give out free goodies to teachers. It was actually last night, but it was only from 5-8 which is dinner, bath, books, bed time at our house. I went in this morning, not expecting any to be left over, but willing to ask. There were a few leftover, so they gave me one. It's a very nice treat, especially for those of us whose schools don't purchase supplies.

Happy Sunday everyone,
It was raining heavily when I got up to go to church this morning, but has since turned sunny, hot and humid! It was back to being at church early this weekend as I am back to singing with the worship team. I've missed it over the summer.
When I turned on to our road on the way home from church, I discovered that the road was practically blocked from cars parked up and down on both sides.
It turns out there was an auction at a house just up from us (which we didn't know about). Between car engines, slamming doors and being able to hear music and the auctioneer, I decided to close the windows and turn on the a/c.
I spent the entire afternoon knitting and crocheting in preparation for the cruise which is now less than a week away
Tomorrow I am at the store all day so I wanted to get a bit ahead of myself since I probably will be too tired to do much when I get home.
I've been watching reports on the hurricane in the US and forest fires out in British Columbia on the television all day too. It is hard to imagine what all those people might be feeling right now as they leave their homes wondering if there will be anything left when they get back.
Have a blessed evening all!

Hello everyone
Six more sleeps till dd comes home
I talked to her Friday and she's having a great time. One day she caught 17 fish and 20 another day. This week will be more low key for her as they're staying with "older people" till Thursday and they don't speak much English.
Yesterday I was able to pick up more caselot sales for my food storage. I got 3 cases of tomato soup, 1 case of mushroom soup, 2 cases of tomato sauce, and 1 case of mushrooms. I love filling up my storage area.
Friday the library called that a book I reserved came in but for some reason, I must have made the mistake, the book was at the other branch of the library. A 30 minute drive. I have never been to that branch because the main library is closer to me and I thought the main branch would have a better selection of books. Well I was pleasantly surprised to see a bunch of books I've wanted to read and a lot of other interesting books too. I took out a stack of books and the nice thing is that I can return them at the main library. The last few days I've been having a great time with my new books
This week will be busier as dh has appointments everyday. Monday he needs to sign some different papers at the university(his employer). It seem they have now got a lawyer involved with his stuff
Not sure why but dh has nothing to hide and the papers he has to sign is about his job description. The university didn't want to give the disability company that information and without that we get no money. More stupid fighting
Well I off to hide out with my books again. Have a great Sunday!~ Tina ~

I can't believe how fast the year is flying by. School/work has been great so far.
DH went back to the dr. for a follow-up since being released from the hospital. Now they have scheduled surgery for Friday, Sept. 2nd. They have found something else. I plan on being there with him and have put in for a sub for that day.
Today I spent most of the day mowing the yard, decluttering, rearranging the LR furniture, and doing loads and loads of laundry. I am trying to make it to where I do laundry one day a week, but it seemed like I did way too many loads. I think one load a day is better than all day....for me anyway with our hectic schedules.
I hope all in the path of the hurricane are evacuating and are safe! We have friends that we can't get a hold of in Baton Rouge, so I am praying they are safe.
I hope you all have a great week!~*Michelle*~

This morning I start my second week of putting in applications for work. I must admit that I got very upset last week, not hearing anything, but I am feeling better. Obviously, I just didn't put it in the right place. I am going to 2 differernt towns today.
We had a good weekend. My sister-in-law had to stay in Mobile. I am worried about her and hers. They just did not have an option. Of course, I did. But as dear ol' pappy use to say to me, "I don't believe your opinion was asked for."
Well, I have to go. Keep the hurricane situation in your prayer. A lot of people stayed behind. Also, Please say one for me.
Y'all have a really good and blessed day

Good morning everyone. I had a wonderful weekend and felt pretty good health wise.
Yesterday we went to the Peace Gardens. Dd and I went to a quilt show (awesome), while dh and the boys waited in the van. We then all walked through the Peace Gardens. The flowers were stunning this year. I guess with all the rain, it really helped. We took our own lunch, so the only cost was the $10 gate fee, and the cheesecake I purchased for everyone (except me). It was so nice to do something fun that didn't cost a whole lot of money.
Today I need to head into the city. I also need to pick up some caselot items here at our local Co-op. They are having a huge warehouse sale, just on time for me to work at getting our pantry stocked. Tina, they must have some of the same things on sale as you got, because soup and mushrooms are on my list too.
I also need to get some more of my Swiss chard frozen today.
Tonight its over to the post office to clean and then home to work on my oldest dd's wedding quilt. Just about finished it. It was suppose to be done for June, however it just got to hot to do the quilting part of it.
Have a great Mon. everyone.

Okay, let's try this again. I just typed it and then for some reason it gave me "page can not be found." This time I'll copy before submitting.
No real plan for the day. It poured overnight, so the park equipment is all wet. Not sure what to do with the kids today, as we all get cabin fever very easily. It's also quite humid, so I don't know that I could stand taking them for a walk. Hard to think of free things to do, though.
I have a load of laundry in and have been cleaning in little 5-10 minute spurts as the spirit moves me. I'm hoping that Julia and I can make some cookies while Patrick naps. Some nice girl time and a nice snack to have around the house.
Dinner tonight will be quiche, since Rob is going to be late tonight. He's in training for his new job and it's an hour away. He will have leftovers from the weekend for dinner, since he hates quiche.
Oh, I do need to drop of a prenatal vitamin prescription at the pharmacy. That will get us out for a few minutes. My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

Dh is continuing to work on remodeling here. We've been trying to find rugs for ds's room and are coming up empty-handed.
Not much has been happening here. I'm in a very foul mood here for a variety of reasons (a family member lying to us and letting us down in a huge way that has left us in an enormous mess being one of them) and other things have my feelings very hurt as well.
It did cool down enough Sat. evening that I was able to mow (ride) the back part of our property. I had to take it in slow mode though to keep from getting jostled around too much.
Our homeschool year started last Monday and it's going great so far. Ds can't stop gushing about how much fun he's having. He really loves the science curriculum I wrote to use this year and is doing a fantastic job in all his subjects.
I hope to get back to baking soon, but it's still too hot here. So much for the forecast that Aug. was going to be a 'cooler' month. Instead we've been breaking records left and right for high temps.
I'm watching hurricane Katrina coverage with great interest, not because I can certainly understand what the people are going through right now and what they will walk out and see when it's over. I'm also trying to keep an eye on a new tropical depression that has formed in the Atlantic, but not much is being said about it so far. Unfortunately hurricane season is long from over and Sept. is usually a very active month.

Ugh! I can't edit. Take out the 'not' from the first sentence of my last paragraph and it will make sense!

Busy Monday already.
Made a batch of perogies with leftover mashed potatoes from last night's supper. Tonight, it's perogies and veggies...yeah, our meatless night!
Made some more cookie dough logs. This time, I made mint chocolate chip/hazelnut cookie logs. Of course I baked one batch....dessert for today.
Also will be making pizza swirls with hm frozen pizza dough and sauce. DD loves these and they are perfect for her lunch kit!
Babysitting this afternoon and for the next two days....so extra money for the LOC. I'm determined to have that completely clean by year's end.
Also doing some more desktop publishing (a mini home-based business) so that will also be extra money for LOC.
Because it will be hot today on these Canadian prairies, we will be spending the rest of the day outside. Have to enjoy these days as the winters can be long and cold!
Have a great day!Tamara

Good Afternoon all,
CJ, I wouldn't have been able to forego the cheesecake
Good for you!

Tammy, welcome to the homestead forum!
Well, today is hot, humid and sort of overcast. When I left for work this morning it was foggy out too. It was a busy but quiet day at the store for me. I didn't have to share the computer so even though I am learning a new Point of sale system and had a lot of orders to ship, I was able to get done quickly.
Stopped to stock up on Josh's medical and extra food supplies on the way home. I'm trying to make sure DH doesn't have to get anything for him next week while I am away.
Much knitting and crocheting still to be done today. DH did some laundry for me before he left this afternoon and the boys are busy cleaning out their bathroom and picking up the apple windfall from under the apple trees.
Macaroni and cheese for dinner tonight.
Have a great day all!

Top of the morning to everyone.
Another busy day for me today. I'm building a website for my patterns (I hope)
Yesterday, I sent out about 10 emails to craft stores with a couple of samples of our patterns. So far I've had two replies asking about prices and wanting the catalogue. If I have a website I don't have to post the catalogue. I should ge the frugal award for that. Anyhow, wish me luck.
I also have some housework to do and I might do some laundry if it stops raining.
Chriss, you'll have such a wonderful time on your cruise. I bet you're excited.
Tammy, welcome to homesteading. I look forward to getting to know you.
Kim, I hope you feel better later in the day.
Amy, there's a book called: Real men don't eat quiche. Maybe Rob has read it.
CJ, I'm pleased to hear you're feeling better.
Cathy, good luck on your job search.
Michelle, good to see you back. I hope your DH recovers soon.
Michele, still sewing or taking it easy?
Don't worry, I know the answer.
to everyone who follows.
