Fall is a good time to plant shrubs and trees. They come on for half price to clear out, and you plant now, and get a head start on spring.

Water in well.

Time to check out the fall bulbs. I've had good results from the boxes at the supermarket that come in fresh every year from Holland. If you get them soon enough the quality is good.

I've used a bulb planter for years now. It's useful for more than bulbs.

In the spring I also use it to slice a round plug of soil out and transplant bedding plants (petunias etc) really fast.

In the fall it's handy for a super fast bulb planting.

Sprinkle a handful of bonemeal around all your flowering shrubs for the winter. By spring it'll have worked in and show up as better fatter flowers.
