Default Down on the homestead - Oct. 9 - Oct 15

Good morning homesteaders and welcome to another week.

I have so much energy I'm about to burst. I cleaned out cupboards and rearranged my stockpile yesterday.  I now have two cupboards - one for food and related items and one for cleaning - of ourselves and the house.  I also washed and seasoned my baking pans and trays, did some pruning, planted tomatoes and finished a book I was reading.

Today I'm writing, doing laundry and, hopefully, painting my kitchen table.  I also have to bake some bread and go to the PO.  The weather is quite lovely at the moment.  It's cooled down a bit and is now cool at night and around 28C during the day, perfect.

I wish I could bottle this feeling I have at the moment.  I'm usually optimistic and upbeat but I have a feeling now that everything is possible and that I'm surrounded by great people who encourage and stimulate thought.  So I guess that's a hint to start on my book writing for the day.

    Have a happy week everyone.

    Hello!

Rhonda, send some of that energy my way!

Well, I'm having my biopsy done on Thurs. afternoon. Really am not looking forward to that!

Today I made some curtains for the dining room, our Walmart fabric section has a huge table with fabric marked down to $1/yard. So for our huge window I only paid $4 for the curtains.

I'm going to get ready for bed. Have a nice evening.

    Good evening homesteaders!

I was so tired last night that I slept 11 hours :surprise: I'm still in shock. Anyways, I feel a whole lot better today.

I've been preparing for our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. We're going to have it at noon as dd has to work from 3 to 11pm. The pies are done, salads made, dressing almost ready, and the veggies cleaned.

Last week had some more changes for us. Ds#2 got a full time job working for the newspaper as their ad design person(there's some fancy name I can't remember), so he quit college. I wasn't too happy about this at first but after much thought, I think he made the right choice. The college courses he was taking were not in the career field he wants. He needs to go away to another university for that and it's very expensive. This job is a wonderful opportunity for him to learn and save money towards what he really wants.

That being said, it now makes my life even busier. He starts work at 8 and so now I will have to drive dd to college for 10 and then pick her up at 3. Between driving her and dh, I don't think I'll have a life. Talk about a taxi services. Oh well, I'll make the best of it. I'm not sure how we'll come up with the extra gas money though.

I'm reading a really good book by Phil Callaway call Who Put My life of Fast-Forward? How to Slow Down & Start Living Again. Love the book so far, I just need to figure out how to put some of it into practise.

Well, I better get off this computer and start working on my Christmas crafts.

    Have a great evening everyone!

Dh and the electrician made some progress today, but not as much as I had hoped. The guy always spends too much time talking about what he's done at his house and what he would do at our house if it were him (he and I usually disagree LOL).

I've done a lot of work on ds's one window quilt top today. I also got most of the backyard mowed this evening, but ran out of daylight so I'll have to finish it up another evening.

Good morning homesteaders! I hope everyone has a great day!

Rhonda, sends some of that energy this way!

Today is Columbus Day and schools are closed. BUT the staff has to report. I would love to take the day off to spend with the boys. I am heading to work in a few minutes.

We are getting a few rain showers today which is desperately needed. It is so dry here.

Hi Everyone, hope you are all doing well.

Julie I hope our DD is feeling better!

DH is getting his physical today for surgery tomorrow. He is feeling very tired today. Not sure what they will say. I will be out of work all day tomorrow if he has the surgery scheduled. We have had enough practice with DH on crutches but his leg will be straight after tomorrow so it will be more difficult for him.

I have also been staying off the computer on weekends to get more done around the house and to work on Christmas projects.

I hope you all have a great day.

We had a nice weekend, although busy. Our first priority was to get the house winterized and we got that all done. We insulated the water pipes (they froze the last 2 years). We put new acrylic plastic on one of the windows we haven't replaced yet. We insulated the kitchen window where we had replaced the window, however hadn't gotten it all done. Dh put all the gardening tools away, cleaned the porch and insulated a window in our partial basement. He also did a bit of caulking that needed done around 2 windows.

We then headed over to the po and did the winterizing there. We put the storm windows back on, covered the a/c and I also scrubbed and waxed all the floors.

We then celebrated with turkey last night. Today dh is working on the farm.

I've gotten a couple loads of laundry done and bread dough is rising right now, almost ready to go into the oven. I have tonight off from the po, so I plan on finishing a book I'm reading and hitting the bed early tonight.

Hoping everyone is having a wonderful Monday.

You guys got a lot accomplished, CJ!

Dh ripped out the upper cabinets, one lower cabinet, and the backsplash from one side of the kitchen last night. It's weird walking in there now.

I've been continuing to work on piecing the window quilt for ds's room and I made a couple of batches of waffles today. I don't know that any of them will make it to the freezer though - ds has already devoured two and knowing him he'll be asking for more in a bit. LOL

I have another glucose test in the morning so I get to fast tonight starting after 7pm. I'm hoping all turns out fine with this one as well.

    Hello everyone.

I did everthing I wanted to do yesterday, except for the painting. My DS came over just before lunch so we had a sandwich together and talked out in the garden.

I might get to the painting today, who knows. It's overcast but I hope to hang washing on the line and get it dry and inside before the predicted rain this afternoon. I'll make some biscuits/cookies this afternoon.

I'll be thinking of you on Thursday, Julie.

Michelle, I hope you get that rain.

Tina, congratulations to your son on getting that full time job. It sounds like interesting work.

Michele, I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow.

CJ, it's good you have all your winterising completed. Enjoy your early night.

Kim, good luck with your glucose test. Take care, stay out of the heat and get some rest when you can.

    to all who follow.

    Hello!

Kim, good luck! Would a window quilt keep the hot sun out?
    Rhonda, Thanks

I worked until 6:00 today, got home at 6:30. DH had dinner ready, I did one load of laundry, and finished the dishes. I am exhausted. It seems like I'm always on the go, without time to sit and read or anything! I need to work on that.

Things will be alot easier, my FIL is moving down here by the end of the month from PA. He will be staying with us for a month or two, then buying a house. He is my chief babysitter, so this will be a huge blessing. No more daycare ($50/week), and I will be able to get out more!!! I don't know which one is more exciting.

Well, I'm off to finish the dishes, and go to bed. Have a nice evening!

It's been a relaxing day. We had our turkey dinner at noon and the rest of the day we've played games, read, and talked. I've also worked on some cross-stitching.

I love days like this when we can stay home and enjoy each others company.

Dd had to work this afternoon so I'll have to stay up to pick her up at 10:30. I'll probably read all evening.

Michele, I will be thinking of you and your DH tomorrow. Hoping all goes well with the surgery.

CJ, I am glad you were able to get your winterizing out of the way for winter. Enjoy your book.

Kim, I wish DH would redo our cabinets. I bet it will look great when they are all replaced!

Rhonda, glad you were able to enjoy lunch with your DS today.

Julie, I am so happy for you. I bet you can't wait for your FIL to arrive.

Tina, it is so nice to hear that you and your family were able to enjoy each others company.

Kim, good luck with your test. Those are no fun. Sending prayers your way.

CJ, I don't know how you do all you do. Whew!!! You are one strong woman!

I had a tantrum-throwing one year old this morning, so my day started out challenging. She hasn't gotten the memo yet that such behavior isn't allowed in our house. My 3yo told her she was being rude.

I was able to get a few errands run, some laundry done and the kitchen floor mopped before the older children came home from school. After that, a little playtime, homework, and supper is all that can be accomplished. It's been a good day and I'm tired. Good night all!
