Amatuer in need of advise.
Have been wanting my own garden for so long. Decided it's perfect timing in my life to plan one. Want to plant a vegetable garden. Have a huge backyard and will use a corner for it. Am so unknowledgeable am feeling overwhelmed!! Would like to be able to grow vegetables, enough for our family and then some (for canning or donating), possibly even year round. The hubby and I have talked of building a small greenhouse (as I like to grow plants, as well) to compliment the garden.
Okay, so can someone point me in the right direction? I need to find out about so much. LOL Do they make a 'Gardening for Dummies'? Is there any books that you've found especially helpful, without feeling overwhelmed? Good websites?
Bring on them baby steps...
Step 1: done
Step 2: waiting on amount, hubby had followup colonoscopy, I had visit to ER with followup procedure
Step 3: to follow, won't know aim until things settle
Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
Step 5: grown child
Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
Step 7: ahhhh....

Yup, there sure is a 'Gardening for Dummies'... Will look Monday and see if it's at my local library.

The best place to start is by checking out this site: http://www.pathtofreedom.com/pathproject/index.shtml

Look at everythng they have. It's a normal suburban home with a magnificent vegetable garden. They also have a lot of great links.

My advice Pammy --- start out smaller than you think you need as far as number of plants and amount planted. Even us experienced gardeners end up planting way more than we can or want to handle by the end of the season. Or at least I do!
I spend part of my Christmas holiday signing up for seed catalogs via the internet and when they begin arriving in January I can plan and plot and dream.
The members here have wonderful advice about a wide variety of gardening topics. You are in the right place for garden wisdom!~~Jean~~
