I'll Join. I love reading the Homestead postings and I just day dream. I use to live on acreage and be pretty self sufficent but since we moved 10 years ago to the Bay Area it's been tough. I don't like to lose the skills I once had, gardening, canning, raising animals etc. The good news: Lately my husband has been talking about buying some rural land so hopefully we can move in a couple years.

Just found out today that we will be buying the house so I would love to join this club. I will now be able to hang my clothes outside, garden, and we will be doing for ourselves when we start updating this poor neglected house so I think that, even tho this is a house in town with a small lot, I will qualify for membership (if you'll have me that is )

    Default New here

I have always loved the idea not to depend so much on those every day little luxuries.
I started cooking and baking from scratch about 3 years ago, which has saved me so much money.
Instead of expensive trips to theme parks etc., we started hiking, fishing etc.
My daughter has more fun fishing than going to Chuck E Cheese.
On the weekends we take walks around base, it is so beautiful with all that snow right now.
We live on base, so I can't have a garden. I have wonderful memories working in the garden with my grandma, homegrown tastes so much better.
I will not deny this in our 10 year marriage we have accumulated quite a debt, we really "needed" two SUV's and that trip to Disney........
Well, we are on the right path now and have been able to build a savings substantially.
Sorry for rambling on like this....
Have a wonderful and blessed day!!
    Melanie

I think I'm going to come and wedge myself into the crowd. We don't own our own land, but we do live on a farm (DH is a farm manager for a larger broiler operation). I have a garden (most years, didn't last year because of baby) and I try to cook as much from scratch as I can.

I'm working on trying to raise as much of our produce ourselves, and wish we could have our own layers, but with the commercial farm we can't keep a separate flock.

I also live vicariously through Diane (owiebrain) as they build their house, and I dream someday of having our own land.

Hello Melanie, jzkitten, Lisa and Cindy! Welcome to homesteading.

Please share your daily lives with us in the homesteading thread. It's wonderful to read about each others lives while we all take care of our families and our homes.

I would love to join as well. We own NO land...we rent a condo at the moment...so have a patio...lol. I'm going to try some container gardening this year perhaps!

Years ago I did do some gardening but not much canning due to lack of knowledge...should have listened and watched mom and grandma a bit more huh?

Basically would LOVE to get our family back to living a simpler life and teach my kids the basics of living easier on this earth...the way we should live! I do love to cook from scratch and do the basics like sewing and crafts and those sorts of homemaker things...so would love to talk with all you women to learn more....I love the idea of self sufficiency!!!

    Bless you all!!!!
