    Default Our Homestead

Geesh, does it need work. An older woman lived there and for the last 5 years of her life it was with her caretaker. It's been empty for a year now. It needs total updating but we got it at a great price and for two years we are going to turn this into a gem of a home.

I'm so jealous! I dreamed last night that I owned this gorgeous two story Victorian house and Sheryl Crow came to visit me!

I love it! With a little TLC, it'll be a lovely, warm cottage!

    Thanks all.
LOTS of work to do. The stump in the front yard, that HUGE silver maple at the top of the pic , and all the brush at the left are all going. The tree is much too big and much too close to the house. I hate to cut a tree down but at least we'll use the wood next year and I will compost the leaves so it won't be a waste of the trees life completely.

The color I don't like and at the right side of the house it's peeling pretty bad. BF said he wanted to vinyl side it and I said that wouldn't be good cuz that would take the charm away. The wood siding on it is in PERFECT shape. I wanted to strip and stain but we agreed to prime and paint a wood tone beige or tan and then put shutters up. I'm going to plant a clematis and possibly a climbing rose at the right of the door, where the bush is now.

The handicap ramp in the carport is going. BF wants to enclose the carport and make a garage. He's thinking maybe a tan stoneas siding to go with the paint color as a contrast.

The first thing inside is going to be to strip out the very old and insufficient wool insulation from the attic and put in a good amount of insulation so we don't waste heat while working inside.

    Then the REAL work begins

It's gorgeous. It's got that country cottage look, and I think your plans will only make it better! Love it.
