Question What one area do you find the most interesting ...

    When it comes to homesteading?

For me it has to be self-sufficiency. I'm always amazed at what others do or learn in order to become self-sufficient.

Generally it's self-sufficiency but at the moment it's solar power. We're going off the electrical grid soon and we're in the middle of researching solar panels.

Being surrounded by and observing nature.
    And gardening........

Because I am"deficient" in so many areas I don't have alot of hope at being "self-sufficient". But I love reading about self-sufficiency.
I am handicraft challenged and Dh won't let me get any animals (chickens etc.) because we love to camp alot (when we have money and time).

Growing my own food and putting it up, I know that's two but they go together Now if I could pick another one it would be reading about having my own animals, can't have them here but all that information could come in handy someday.

Self-sufficiency without a doubt. I would so love to achieve that.

    Connecting to the land.

That said, there are MANY areas of homesteading I love --- but they really all go back to connecting to the land and living in harmony with the seasons and nature.

I think that for me it's getting everything in cycle. Using the duck manure to feed the garden and the garden to feed the ducks and the egg shells in the compost, etc. It's when nothing has to come onto or leave my property. I guess that's self-sufficiency, isn't it?

Mostly what Rhonda said, although my husband, the teevision producer and electronics junky, would never consider going off the grid. I would love to get solar panels installed- we had them on our home at some point (we still have the control box for it) and a lot of people around here have them- I don't know why- must have been a good salesman in the area.

I like learning about the way things were done in the past. How the pioneers lived & survived. Back to basics, I guess.........or self sufficiency.
