    Default Building your own bathtub

If you were going to build your own bathtub, what would you do, how would you do it?

We're considering it for the new house.

Decide on the dimensions and then you "tank it" with waterproof concrete, you could put mosaic or regular tiles over the top, but the primary job is to make it waterproof.

The plug hole/water draingage hole has to be built into the design and you had better get it right first time
basically it is a square ( or whatever shape you decide) that is dug in to the foundations of the house OR you have to build up a tiled surround.
Whichever way you dice and slice it, it is pretty much there for life so plan. check, check the weight the floor will take ............(if you are doing more than one story............ then check again and if you still like your original plan.......go for it!
Generally speaking a built in bath tub ( which is in effect a mini swimming pool is a permanent fixture )
check the "view" too............... you may want to incorporate that into the bigger picture

That is a very interesting question! I am betting the folks at www.homesteadingtoday.com would have some experience with that. Its another forum that is dedicated to helping folks in all stages of homesteading --- if you aren't familiar with it, check it out.

I'll be very curious how your project turns out --- keep us posted!

I've seen tubs made of old wooden barrels, like the kind that are the bigger than the whiskey barrels that we use to plant flowers in........

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

Thanks, everyone! We always have some wild scheme we're working on and a tub is just the latest in the works. LOL

I think we've narrowed it down to two choices:

    1. Hubby builds us a metal tub to whatever specs we decide and we enamel it.

    2. Pick up a metal stock tank in a shape and size of our liking and tweak it as needed.

This is still a few months away so plenty of time for us to think it through before we actually do anything.

(Yep, I'm familiar with HT. )
