We're moving!
my dh and his friend (who is moving his farm) are going to be starting up down here! just an hour or so south of the city where we are now.
Going to take a lot of work, and time and energy.
They will have 175 or so head of cattle, a bunch of horses, chickens etc...
There will be 2 families, ours and theirs. hunting down a couple hundred acres, and using 5 for a home for us and 5 for them. then we'll be building a house - I want solar panels and everything I can do to almost eliminate the costs of heating and such. Wood stoves are no problem - my parents heat their home and barns that way so I know what its all about.
Going to get the gardens going, maybe if there is enough we'llbe able to supplement with farmers markets.
really exciting!
and I know a lot of hard work.

root cellars
gardens
oh boy!!
and since I went to cooking school I will be the 'ranch cook' so to speak. our house will have a professional kitchen (yay!!!) and dh said that we can have the cattle slaughtered cleaned etc....then I can do the butchery. hmmm.....do I remember how? it was a part of cooking school. that might be interesting. start up my own butcher shop? lol
told my girls this afternoon and they talked all day about their farm! sooo cool!

oh and since my parents have a tree nursery - my dad is a compost guru. neat word....
he recieves compost (horse manure, grass clippings etc) from the surrounding area and composts it - mixing with sawdust and other wood chips etc. then sells it for a bundle. so we'll be able to dispose of our own compost stuff and then use it.
