This is my new thing For some reason, I find aprons utterly charming. I have one red butcher style one I bought at the restaurant supply store, and I bought a pattern to make some of the retro syle ones (from the 40's-50's) I made one yesterday. Complete with rick rack! It's adorable....

Darlene I love the butcher style ones as well. I do a lot of expermenting in my kitchen which means a lot of taste testing. If I don't wear my apron, I'm forever dropping something on my clothes. I've found aprons save a ton of laundry and save on clothes, at least for me.

All of my grandmothers wore aprons. I fondly remember the candy in their apron pockets.

I have about 5 aprons, all with big pouch pockets in the front. I put my apron on after breakfast and wear it all day. I take it off when I sit down to dinner in the evening. I put it on again to clean up[ the kitchen, then I put it in the launrdy room to be washed. When I get out new tea towels, I get out a fresh apron for the following day.

I find the pockets are useful for carrying things around and for putting pegs into when I'm hanging out the washing.

I love my aprons. I'm also a butcher style apron person, like my evil twin, Darlene.

My MIL made one for me for Christmas. It's so pretty decorated in apples (to match my kitchen). I haven't worn it yet cause I always forget I have it. I've never owned an apron before.

I have found aprons that weren't too expensive on ebay.

I, too, like the bib aprons. My favorite one has FOUR pockets in the front.

I use to make aprons in high school, and wear them in home ec, but not until my aunt was cleaning out her home to sell, did I get two kind of vintage style ones that I have actually been using.. One is green with white polka dots and rick rack to match, and the other is pink and white stripes with matching rick rack.. I believe my cousins made them in the late sixties early seventies, or they were my aunts from further back.. Not quite sure.. I only wear mine when cooking though.

Cheryl -- I just had to laugh! I usually wear one when cooking, as I'm unusually messy, but if it's red sauce that I'm making I keep it on for the meal, too! I've ruined too many shirts by slurping spaghetti sauce on them!

I just love aprons.... I finally winnowed down to three when we moved here (was being ruthless). As I said, I'm a very messy cook, so aprons are really not optional. Casual standers-by should probably don them, too...

    Blessings,
    Mary

I was never one for wearing aprons, but after this thread I pulled out my apron and put it on a few times while doing dishes and cleaning. I'll be keeping it much handier now than tossing it back in the drawer!

No apron, but i have clothes that I only wear around the house when I cook, clean, etc. (and that's everyday!) These are the worst of the worst- shirts that are worn out, stained and otherwise ruined and patched up pants
