Question Do you have any old artifacts from years gone by that have to do with....

    Homesteading in some way.

I have a strainer that was exactly the same as my grandmothers.

I also have a dipper which hangs on my kitchen wall.

I have an old clothesrack that we found in the garage when we moved here.

I have my Grandmother's rolling pin, flour sifter, picklecrock (but the lid broke ), meetgrinder, cheese grater, nut grater and a great aunts wirewhisk with a wooden handle.

I wish I had my grandmothers butterchurn and other pickle crocks. And her mixing bowls.....I always see her standing by those old yelloware mixing bowls.....I wonder where they went? I hope they are loved and not broken.

I like old stuff....always have. I have a beautiful old Singer treadle
that works, I keep all kinds of things in old mason jars with zinc lids, a collection of crocks I've picked up over the years. I also like old kitchen utensils, and decorated a small tree in my kitchen with them at Christmas. We have an old tin washstand on our patio as a planter, and an old wood stove that's setting in my flower garden, milk can on my porch, etc....

I have a very old canning jar with a glass lid (used with the rubber ring seal) and metal clip. I cannot remember when or where I had aquired it, but now it holds my spare change.

I have my great-grandmothers ironing board. I stained it and use it as a sofa table. I just love it.

My favorite homesteading artifact is the two man saw from my grandfather. I think it will make an interesting conversation piece on my living room wall.

I use most of my "antique" things, so sometimes I forget they are quaint.

    I have--

    hand beaters (before electric mixers)

    cream separator

galvanized wash tubs and wash board

    root cellar

wrist corn shucker (don't know the proper name for it)

    hand operated corn sheller

    meat grinder

I have hanging in the barn--- old horse collars and traces for hitching a team to the wagon.

    a scythe

I don't really have anything, but my mother has all of the antique stuff from my father's mother's farm. The spinning wheel, the washboard, and tons of other things that are just around the house.

I'm new here and thought this was an interesting thread. I have a working antique cast iron cookstove in my kitchen. I have my grandmother's treadle sewing machine, a collection of washboards, old flat irons, milk bottles, an egg scale and other items too numerous to mention. I love collecting old things that bring back memories.
