Question Path to the front entrance of your home

Ours is made of cement blocks right now. This spring we plan on changing it to flat rocks. I've never been fond of cement blocks, however thats what was here when we bought the house.

Ours is poured cement sidewalk type, squares until you get to the section at the bottom of the steps, it's half circular. Kinda neat

We made ours. There was none here when we bought our house- or at least we didn't think there was. I was out there one day and figured out there were actually slate slabs under the grass. I eventually got all the grass of them, but they were in a sad state of disrepair. Soooo....I decided we would get a sledge hammer and break them up and use them like flagstones. The nursery guys from next door came and put in the crushed stone base for us, then DH and I meticulously place all those smashed up pieces of slate.

It looked really great when we first put it in. It is in need of some weed pulling, though, now. The nursery owner showed it off that whole first year it was there.

We found out later that those pieces of slate were actually taken from the original village sidewalk when it was replaced with cement. I really like the way they look, but ever since DD was born, it hasn't gotten the proper amount of attention or care. This summer should be better for it, though.

Oddly enough there isn't a path going to our front door! I think the majority of traffic has gone in and out of a side door/porch forever. Then again, maybe I'll be lucky like Kimberly and find a surprise walkway under the grass!

No real "path" to our front door. We park in the yard in front of the house, and then walk up the wheel chair ramp to the front porch and door.

    Mulch over the mud. Ugh.

I've always hated this aspect of our home. I really would like stamped concrete, but that's not in the budget for several years yet. (That and the patio and the big pergola and new front porch and....... )

This year there is no landscaping budget, so I will either squeeze out a few dollars for more mulch or look for broken concrete pieces to set into the ground to make a better and more distinct walkway.
